Morbid Angels AX24 Builds

The AX24 & SCX24 transmission are the same . I think it’s the Furitek motor that doesn’t fit in the AX chassis. The Furitek AX skid will sit slightly lower on the chassis.

Ok. So I’m not sure what’s up but NONE of these parts from Furitek are fitting together. Is it their fault? No. Obviously I’ve somehow got incompatible pieces again.

I am so angry right now that I’m going to get drunk about it. I am seriously pissed off.
I don’t know how, but Furiteks bulls*t proprietary components are ludicrous and absolutely uncalled for. Nothing fits and after spending an absolute sh*t ton of money and waiting and ordering and waiting and ordering….

Guess I’ll give it one more shot. Perhaps I can forgo Furiteks BS tranny and install their motor into another aftermarket trans like Injora’s or another’s. All metal gear upgrade. Dude I am so angry. I don’t want to get kicked off this board for swearing and it’s taking a lot right now. Anyways.

Back to research. Back to the drawing board. Back to wasting money. 🖕Furitek. Overpriced BS. Never again. Never. The barely noticeable if at all, placebo gains are not worth 🖕ing with these guys.

/edit spelling.

Did they not have the AX set up when you ordered?

I didn’t see a list of what parts you have. It will be easier to help if we know what all you’re dealing with.
When looking for parts I usually just go to the section that’s labeled for the SCX twenty four because that’s what I have. I don’t know if all the sites have an AX section but I have seen lots of them that do.
I hope you are able to get it figured, these little trucks are lots of fun. It’s super cool you are doing this with your sons too.

Yea so FURITEK AX24 (and scx24 I believe) trannies are non compatible with anything but their own proprietary skid. 👎👎 for the record.
The AX and SCX trans and Furitek motor mount are the same, but the AX skid is unique. The Furitek skid lowers rhe trans for clearance with the stock frame. I'm thinking about taking the Stinger kit out of my Deadbolt to try in the AX, but I already have the Axial brass skid on the AX. I'm going to try mounting it backwards so the motor faces rearward so I can relocate the battery forward and lower in front of the trans.
Much cutting of the upper tray structure will be involved for whatever clearance I need to make!
I'll take pics and post as I go if I try it.

I’m still working on this thing. Don’t have it running yet though. I am having trouble binding a new receiver to my Futaba 4PL.

The 4PL (not the 4PLS) is a 40 model capable controller. It is FHS & SFHSS transmitter.
I picked up a Radiomaster R84 4 channel receiver off Amazon. RM says it’s D8, D16 & SFHSS compatible. I’m not sure what all that means but I swear I had read that it was compatible with Futaba SFHSS systems like mine.
There does not appear to be a manual ‘link’ option on the 4PL, which is strange. I don’t remember how I had bound it to my previous two crawlers my 2.2 pro using the Futaba R2104GF receiver & my class 3 sporty using the Spectrum SR300. But didn’t have an issue binding to that spectrum… don’t understand why I am now.

My last try will be using the ‘MC Link’ function and directly wire connect the R84 to the 4PL to try and ‘read’ or ‘write’ and get them paired.

Now I’m not very proficient when it comes to all the electronics so I usually end up mashing things together and fumbling through programming until it works in ways I don’t understand and wouldn’t be able to replicate. Im not an idiot though, I read and follow the manuals and generally get things going, I just don’t understand all the business behind the curtains is all.

Another option is to buy a super expensive Futaba receiver and just go with that. But I would prefer something cheaper that is micro/nano in size and 3/4 channel that can bind to my 4PL.

Does anyone have a suggestion or method I can try or maybe have missed to get these paired before I go dumping cash again?

Currently I have it wired:
Battery/Motor -> Furitek Lizard Pro ESC -> ch2 R84
Front Steering Servo -> ch1 R84
Rear Steering Servo -> ch3 R84
***
R84 -> Futaba 4PL … cannot bind

Thanks people!
Photos in the next post!

Finally got it rolling at least! Here as it naturally sits. I will muck with my shock positioning once I get the electronics figured out, or just later.

Ground Clearance @ full height 59mm

Ground clearance natural, lowest point at belly 29mm, f diff 27mm

G. C. full squat 19mm

Too much flex currently.. F @ 104mm

R @ 114mm 🤢

Birds Eye. Front is towards the top of pic

And the electronics kinda

Oops I lied on the weight. It’s missing half of each drive shaft… corrected:

534 g or 18.85 oz

Just for some guesstimates of front and rear weight distribution not including driveshaft halves, ESC, receiver & battery:

Front 289g contact patch pressure

rear 194g contact patch pressure

That’s it for now. Thanks.

Any ideas on mating my Futaba 4PL with that Radio master R84 please please please share!

Have an awesome day everyone!
😁✌️

*edit spelling, apparently ESC auto corrects to “escorts” on my phone.

Spec info thus far (future reference):

Wheel base: 172mm
Track width: *97mm
Resting ground clearance: 29mm
Ground clearance @ diffs: 27mm
GC @ full height: 57mm
GC @ full squat: 19mm (fully depressed)
Weight fully loaded RTR: 534 g or 18.85 oz

*width outside to outside tire 123mm on 72x24r1.3 pinned Supers

~67% weight in front / ~33% weight in rear 👍

Some personal data keeping to reflect on later
