Choosing a motor and ESC for your Wraith - Gearing Added!

I've gone with a Tekin Fxr/45tHD combo. 32p 60t spur and 10t pinion. Running 2s now.
Crawls great, not much for speed, debating the 3s.
Will 3s be too much or just right for this setup?
Already have the Castle bec installed to handle the Solar 772 servo. MIP driveshafts are in.
Axles are stock for now, I plan upgrading them next. What differential gears would be the
the right combo?
I will most likely be 60% crawl & 40% trail/ bashing.

No mater what you are doing under drive gears are best in the rear. Stock ratio would work well for you in the front or you can run od in the front for even better climbing and steering at the cost of efficiency.

The shaft size of that motor is 1/8". 48p is quieter and 32p is stronger. I always run 32p on off-road stuff. A 14t 32p pinion would work good with a 56-60t 32p spur for your motor.

Thanks bud! Is it recommended to use steel for the spur too? Oh, and, is the 32p what is stock on the Wraith? If I go smaller on the spur 56-60t, isn't that harder on the motor, or am I misunderstanding something? Just confused by all this awesome stuff, AND don't want to tear up my new Holmes system!

Each tooth of the 32 pitch gear is larger than each tooth of the 48 pitch gear so a 60 tooth 32 pitch gear is as large as a 48 pitch gear that has much more teeth (maybe around 90t?). A 60 tooth is about as big as you can go without hitting most front drive shafts. Remember that the mechanical advantage is determined by the ratio of how much larger the spur is than the pinion.

60/14=4.3/1

87/20=4.3/1

See?

A plastic 32p spur is plenty strong and is quieter than a metal gear.

DTXC9397 is a 56t 32p spur that bolts on correctly.

DTXC9396 is its 60t brother.

48p is stock.

Another question. A smaller pinion, larger spur = more torque, slower speed right?
Will a 32p 60t spur fit under the stock cover? I guess it's 2 questions!

The 60 requires sanding inside the cover near the drive shaft. After that it fits fine. When you mount the 60 make sure the deeper side of the spur is against the slipper.

I been trying to find it because I know it's probably been ask be for but can someone tell me what is a a good gear set up for my wriath running a tekin roc 412 2300kv. I know I need to go 32p. My drive line has been upgrade for the power and I'm look to be a crawler with a little trial riding in the mix. Please help I am tired of reading all these post that don't pertain to me.

Very first post. Look for Are you running a Tekin Pro4 (or similar high power brushless)?

What do you think about a tekin gen2 17.5t with a mamba max pro geared to 32 pitch 56/14 on a 2S 4000 mah? That is the set up I ordered for my wraith but am unsure of it. Any overheating?

I have read through all the post. But have yet to see any information on overheating with the above combo^^^
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

This a picture of the ride the tekin gen 2 17.5 and MMP on 2s 4000mah will go in

Great guide, Harley!

I've popped the cherry on my Wraith after a month, and smoked the motor climbing the rocks in the dry river bed next to my house, so it's time to upgrade.

Being a cheapskate, I'm bound to tower hobbies' EZ-pay, and the tekin pro4 is only available in 3000 or 3500 with EZ-pay.

Which would you recommend of these two, and what gearing would you recommend here? I'm running 2S lipo now, and not sure when I plan to buy a 3S.

I plan to be doing hiking trails/scaling, rock/hill climbing, and maybe some goofing around at local comps at some point.

My apologies if this has already been covered, 79 pages is a lot of info!

I'm not harley obviously, but I will say 3000kv as the higher kv u use has greater chance to blow up your bearings that the pin gear rides on in your axles. I went from a 3300kv pro4 to an 1850 kv pro4 hd 550. Id say a 2500kv pro4 hd 550.

2500s are available w. EZ-pay too, is that what you'd recommend over the 3k?

It's completely stock except for some metal drive shafts, wouldn't the lower KV have more torque and be more likely to melt stuff?

Oohhh, I won't recommend any pro4 wo a bullet proof trans, way too much torque and rpm's. If you're not fully building it just get a holmes hobbies motor and a brxl for the price you'd pay for a pro 4. Putting a pro4 in a unbuilt rig is like going out in the field wo your kevlar and flak on, you will probably get shot.

Would a pro4 2500 be appropriate in a t-maxx brushless conversion?

If I could "double duty" this setup in there, I could justify grabbing it now while I build up the drivetrain in the wraith.
