Choosing a motor and ESC for your Wraith - Gearing Added!

Thanks HARLEY, again you've got a grab thread and very informative. Keep up the great posts, we need more experts doing threads like this!!

Time to make me feel like a newb:oops:

I am torn between a 3300kv pro4 and a redline gen2 13.5t.

If you would, please explain the difference. I see the pro4 getting used much more than the redline motors, so I am just wondering if there is a reason.

I know this:
*Pro4 has 5mm shaft/ 4 pole, 12slot design/ and is a touch bigger than the redline.
*Redline gen2 seems to be more race based? Couldn't find anything about the rotor or pole count.

I am not afraid to sped the money on the pro4, I just want justification that it is the best choice for the money. The only thing I can come up with is that the pro4 would be a little smoother, and would produce more torque. Dunno if I am even close to right or not.. But it's just what I was thinking.

Thanks in advance"thumbsup"

hows a mmp esc with 17.5 be?

My Wraith is running that set-up, that is how I got it, and I'm not happy. I run a 3S and my gearing is 14:56. The speed is OK but when I need some torque it bogs down and then launches. Temps have always been good. I also have another one with a 6.5 and its way too fast. I'm going to eventually change one to a 13.5 and the other to a 10.5 with a bigger rotor (I have both already).

Out of those two choices I would definitely go with the pro4. The 2 pole redline won't have as much punch as I would want in a wraith. The redline isn't any more "race based" than the pro4. It's just for lighter 2wd classes and the pro4 is for heavier 4wd classes.

Makes sense. Thank you"thumbsup"

I would further suggest that you skip the Pro4 and go with a 3100 KV ROC412. I am loving this motor, it has replaced all of my Pro4's. It's very smooth, uses a nice standard 1/8" shaft and has all the punch I was used to in my Pro4.

Does it have close to the same speed however? After doing a little research that seems to be the one thing the ROC is lacking.

I just picked up a HH Torquemaster Pro 45t and I've got a 20t and 17t pinion with a 80 and 87t spur. What would you recommend with a 10,000mah 2s?

Hi guys first post here ,how are we all?
I used to have a RTR wraith which I sold and now I'm about to build the kit version ,I have a 21.5t hobbywing and a reedy sonic 17.5t
I will run stock gearing to start with 20/80
I have read through all 76 pages and still can't work out why but I just wanted to know
Which of these motors is close to the RTR speed on 2s?
Could you guys shed any light for me please

Looking to do a 6S setup just to have something different with my Wraith. I bash/trail with it and want speed that is a little bit faster than stock. Thinking a waterproofed Mamba Max Pro, Castle BEC, and Tekin Pro4 1400Kv would be ideal.

Run one 3S 5000mah up front and another in the stock location.

Worth a try or just stick with a 3S and Pro4 3300Kv?

pro 4 3300 on 3s geared 56-14 is pretty fast

What kind of runtime could I expect for mostly high throttle bashing?

I know its not the same motor, but i have recently bought a hobbywing xerun 3400kv 4 pole sensored, and with 56/14 on a 2s 5000mah battery, when i foff its giving me arround 45 minutes, if i bash in places that not require lots of uphills its lasting me longer, arround 1 hour and 15 minutes, about that, im thinking the pro 4 will last about the same because are equal kv and pole motors both 540 can too. I am very happy with this new set up, crawls great, and speed is good too, guess a 3s lipo will be the way to have more power... cheers.

Hobbywing 3656sd 3400kv. It's a sealed can 4 pole motor that is in the same class as the tenshock and pro4 when racing short course. Biggest difference is that it runs cooler than the pro4 (and way more affordable). It's sealed from the factory but I pulled mine apart and added conformal coating to the windings and sensor board. Then I added dielectric grease to the sensor port, bearings, and where the endbell meets the can. Now I can run it underwater. It crawl good and is silly fast.

Hi i bought this motor because of your tip, and im loving it. I paired with a mmpro esc, but im running 2s lipo 40c 5800ah and a venom hardcase 5000mah 50c. I am using 56/14 gearing. But what i would like to know is what are the settings you use on the mmpro for this motor. Sensored only, cheat mode on? What rpm range? Smart sense? What timing advance? I use this to crawl and to foff but i would like to have a litle more speed out of it without overheat the esc. Can you please share your configs? Or will i need a 120amp sensored esc constant, since mmpro is a 80amp constant with 120 amp burst and the esc that comes in this combo brings a 120amp constant and amazing 760 amp burst. Please let me know your experience. Thanks
