Choosing a motor and ESC for your Wraith - Gearing Added!

theres gota be a better motor then the holmes hobbies ... iv had 3 motors in the last few months all new and all of them are great for about 3 runs ... then they are terrible cutting out one locked right up

It sounds like you may have other issues. You're not going to find that happening with 3 motors in a truck that is properly setup.

Hi Harley ...

Can help me, I use a 35T motors on my wraith, with Stock ESC.

20T Pinion / Spur 88T (48P)

The problem is, my motor frequent stop... need little push to make it move again...

what do you think is wrong with my settings

one more, to reduce heat on the motor / esc. What should I do, lowering or raising the pinion

The most common reason to need a push start is commutator/brush issues. Your brush hoods maybe dirty, brushes worn out, etc.

Switching to a smaller pinion reduces motor temps.

Dropped a 35t tekin hd crawling motor and 32p /13tooth pinion with 54tooth spur. After reading all 53 pages of this thread, then reading it AGAIN, I feel I made a good choice in motor and gearng. On 2s lipo it has awesome power and runs at about jogging pace. On 3s OMG! This thing wakes into a beast that has insane power and runs about stock speed or maybe a hair slower. I can't get over the torque of this thing. Can't wait to try it out after work tomorrow at a crawl spot. Only ripped around my yard a bit. I should be leaving a small rooster tail of broken parts behind me. Lol

Oops, I should have said 75 pages. Lots of info here, actually too much for my add brain. Thanks Harley , for all the great info and advice I have found tucked into this thread, I can honestly say my wraith would still be bone stock and probably broken without this forum. Cheers

I am doing a total rebuild on my wraith now after the tekin pro 3300kv and mmpro esc. The motor was way to fast for this type of car the the breaks are so strong on hard pack the car would endo when you let off the throttle. Anyway I took Harleys advice and got a Holmes 35t tq master and a BR XL esc. I already had the bullet proof trans and running gear. Now I can enjoy driving it at the speed it was designed for. Because it was hair on fire before with lots of damage and crashes. Of course I could have used a lighter finger on the trigger but hey that's no fun. Anyway thanks for the great forum and infor.

Finally got my wraith put together. Went with the HH 35T torquemaster pro, and BR-XL ESC, with an RC4WD AX2 two speed trans. Running the stock 15T pinion, and 60T spur, and I'm very happy with low range crawling, but I'd really like a bit more speed in high range though. Would the 13T crawlmaster give me a bit more top speed in high range, while retaining the great low end crawlability in low?

Greetings everyone.

I have a mamba max pro that I will be sending in for overhaul. Once I get it back, I want to go with a brushless motor to toss into my Wraith. When I sit back and think about what I do, I dont do a lot of rock crawling. I seem to do more trailing and and hill climbs than crawling. I do have a 5700kv motor in my RC toolbox I am considering using and just down gear it to around 12 pitch or so. I still feel this motor can be overkill for the Wraith and I am considering a ROC412 motor (seeing a lot of forum users use MMP+ROC412). I am in the process of bulletproofing my drivetrain for a brushless setup using Harley's recommendation on his other thread.

Does anyone have any opinions running a 5700kV motor in a Wraith?

Hey harley quick question I'm building a wraith with the bmrc ifs conversion and was wandering what u would reccomend for a good setup for speed and still crawlability is mmp a good place to start with esc? And I wanna go brushless, I have a goat 3s what motor wouldu reccomend if I decided to use that esc? Thanks for your time sir!

Hey Harley. Quick esc and motor question. 17.5 Dynamite Sensored motor with the Fuze Dynamite esc. Basically the set up that comes in the Losi 22 Ready to compete. Is it worth trying in a wraith used mainly for crawling and running trails?

Thanks for your time.

Basically everything on the front page still applies. I'm using a MMP and Tekin ROC 412 3100kv in mine.

I don't believe the programming in that ESC is a good fit. I don't think it has instant reverse specifically.
