Choosing a motor and ESC for your Wraith - Gearing Added!

The center of the spur is deeper on one side than the other. If you run the deeper side facing the transmission and do some sanding to the inside of the spur cover near the driveshaft you can run the cover with that 60t spur. I bought the junfacs on eBay. They are the same price as the ax10 MIPS but a bit lighter. If I lived where you do I would go with the ax10 MIPS since they are stronger and I wouldn't want to wait for shipping from the US if I broke a junfac. I chose the junfacs because I am trying to keep my wraith light. If I break one I will replace them with MIPS and put the junfacs on my scaler. If you buy MIPS don't waste your money on the wraith versions. The ax10 versions are cheaper and still fit.

Edit: I bet your 3 year old loves the wraith. My 2 year old drives mine. He turns 3 next month and I want to get him a rc of his own for his birthday. My youngest son turned 1 today.
hoohoo, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO HIM, i am having another one (another boy) on november this year.
here you have a video of my kid hitting the gas on the wraith.

hope you like it.
I have ordered the 56t spur and 14t pinon 32 pitch gears, the 60t spur is no longer in stock, and i will be running mainly on 2s lipo not 3s, so do you think it will heat up when crawling with that gearing, or should i get a smaller pinion lets say a 12t or 11t if it fits with the 56t spur, i am asking because i would like low end speed without cog, i know its a sensored set up, but i dont know it very well, and as i will do some foffing too i need some rpm do climb the sand dunes, but i dont want cog or heat at all because where i live in fortaleza, brazil, the average temp is about 30 degrees, everyday, so foffin lets say at 14hrs the air temps go about 34 degrees, and foffing really pulls out the motor. Thats why i am asking. Does anyone can chime on this? Because i can still change the pinion for a smaller one but i would like a good mix of crawl and speed on 2s because i dont have 3s lipo, and i guess the motor is not prepared to 4s lipo (2 2s lipo plugged in series, and it will increase the weight of the rig).
the batteries i have are two turnigy nanotech 2s lipo 5800mah 40c
and one venon hardcase 2s lipo 5000mah 50c
Please give me some lights here.
thanks in advance

Pure Crawling Performance

This is a much easier choice than the others. If you want the best crawling performance you need to stay with a brushed motor. It is important that you look into re-gearing your crawler, the stock gearing is very high and could cause motor failure when in the rocks. Even though it’s crawling you still do need wheel speed at times though. My suggestions:

Best Choice: Holmes 16t Crawlmaster (5 slot motor which is similar to a 27t traditional 3 slot motor)

Middle Budget Choice: *Holmes TorqueMaster Expert 540 35t

Budget Choice: Holmes Sport 540 35t

*

Pure Speed

Just bolt in the fastest brushless you can find and watch the trail of parts fall out behind you…

I'm looking to upgrade my Wraith Posion Spyder stock motor to be much better in crawling, keeping the 2S lipo and stock ESC.
Would these motors and 16T pinion would work:
CrawlMaster Expert 16t or CrawlMaster Sport 16t?

What about the 54114 Tamiya CR tuned 35T? I know it works good with my friend's CSX10, but the Wraith is a bit different in "character" :) - need to have a bit of speed after all... :)

New to the Wraith, what about stock gearing with a 55t brushed motor for crawling? I have a 55 here is why I ask.

So I sold off some other stuff, and now I'm torn on the motor and esc decision.

EDIT: I've decided on a Holmes ESC / Motor combo, so the 27t trailmaster pro, or 35t torquemaster pro with the ax2 trans?

I'm very new to this! I picked up a 55T Boost, it really slowed down my car, great crawling speed, but it has no balls at all!!
I'm running a 3000 Nimh and stick everything else.

Please tell me what I'm doin wrong.

Sorry I just saw the post a couple up. Mine is brushed. And it's a dog.

Switch to 3s lipo and pick up a ~35t motor. If you really want it to be fun switch to 3s and a sensored 4 pole brushless motor around 3000-3500kv.

i got the holmes hobby TorqueMaster Sport 540 27T and its great! it was budget enough for me, but also torque and power enough for me, paired with the gears, shafts and 32P spur/slipper robinson set up from super shafty, mine has more power, and will crawl much better than it did stock without sacrificing much in the speed department.

Well, I ended up going with the 35t torquemaster pro combo on Johns advice, as this will be a crawler primarily. With the two speed, hopefully it will be enough to satisfy me. If not, I have other go fast rigs.

Hello, I'm new to this haha. I bought RTR Axial Wraith, i just upgraded the motor, esc and battery with stock receiver. i was wondering this is a good combo for crawling. I just saw the first page earlier today and I already got this set-up couple days ago.

Tekin 45t HD brushed motor w/Tekin FX-R esc
60T spur, 12T pinion 32P(on the truck) and 60T spur, 9T pinion 32P(spare)
Reedy 3s 3900 LiPO battery
CC BEC 10 amp
Savox 1256tg digital servo

That will be a solid crawling setup.
