Choosing a motor and ESC for your Wraith - Gearing Added!

i run a 55t motor w stock gearing and i love it,,, goes up anything i want depending on traction,,, muddy hill climbs not so good, but rocks, dirt, water trail runs, 55t stock gearing perfect for me,,,

A good 35t motor will be able to do everything most 55t motors will do in terms of a Wraith, with the added bonus of some extra wheel speed. A 35t motor is as slow as I ever recommend to someone.

It most certainly will. I ran that motor for quite awhile with John while he was testing it in Oregon.

Good to hear! That TTC motor looks like something I'd want to run. Any guess on when that thing will come out (maybe I'm just out of the loop on it)?

To make a comparison: I have been doing "1:1 crawling" for the last 10 years. My crawler has a built 5.0 on propane. Needless to say, I like to be able to spin those tires!!

I don't know exactly when it will be out.

Harley, one more question on gearing. You suggested a 56/14 32t gearing for a 13t crawlmaster setup. On the HH site JRH says that a 16 pinion is recommended for motor longevity. I've got the 56/14 32t set up in route as well as the 13t CM. why the discrepancy, and what are the pros/cons of this set up?

I've searched this thread a few times, but couldn't find an answer. I apologize if you have already answered this question.

Cheers.

EDIT: Misread the post. Yes holmes is speaking about lower gearing using 48p gears. The stock pinion is a 20t, and he is suggesting dropping down to a 16t. Lower gearing is better for the motor in the end.

I believe Mr Holmes is referring to 48P gears... maybe he will chime in.

Fanfreakingtastic. That is what I assumed, but also just getting back into the game I wanted to make sure there wasn't a finer detail I was missing.

Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions.

Cheers. "thumbsup"

Ok, i need a little help. I have a HPI 15T motor out of a drift car, a super 17T thunder tiger and stock axial 20T, everyone I use smokes after about 5 minutes of play. im on stock gearing 80/20, and have tried 80/16 on the 17T motor with same results.

I'd prefer to use the 17T motor as i love its ability to let-r-eat on the hills, but all the motors work well where i play, so what would be the best gearing for these motors?

Thanks in advance.

All those motors are poor choices. Also once they have smoked you need to replace or rebuild them.

Read the beginning of this guide, a 27t brushed is as fast of a brushed motor as should be used.

Ok I've decided to get mmp. I went to LHS today to acquire said item along with the tekin pro4 3300kv. At the LHS I saw the pro4 3300kv but I wasn't for sure if it was the right motor. It said it was for short course racing and was black and sensored. They did have a 18.5 sensor motor that was chrome and red which I was more familiar with. I'm going to strictly crawl in technical areas. Would the 18.5 be a better choice for extreme low end control? Also was the pro4 the right model? Thanks.

I am looking at the BR-XL & a motor for my kit Wraith.
I will be trail running and some rock crawling. Maybe 70% trail/30% crawling.
Would you guys suggest... the 13t "TorqueMaster Crawlmaster combo" or the 21t "TorqueMaster Pro Rock Racer combo"?

13t Crawlmaster or 27t Torquemaster.

21t is too fast and will burn up.

Thank you for the info on the 21t. Now I just have to decide on the CM 13t or the TM 27t. Are the speeds comparable?
It is the last major piece of the puzzle I need to put my kit together. "thumbsup"

Yes, speeds will be comparable. The 13t is a little faster and smoother but not a huge day and night difference. I really enjoyed my 13t setup, but most would be happy with a 27t.

I am definitely going with the Crawlmaster series.
Do you have any experience with the 11t CrawlMaster?

Still lost
I'm a heli pilot that occasionally crawls for fun. Sorry if I don't understand the set-ups these crawlers use. Wish I knew what was best of my above 2 choices and if they are correct. The motor is all I need now. I will never comp and just crawl on my own nice and slow. So is the 18.5 Tekin a better choice for me? I looked at some videos of the 3300's and they are 30% faster than I ever intend on going. Got the MMP on 3s and want a good walking speed or a tad faster. Oh and btw the reason I want brushless is not really for insane power or speed but just because I can instal and forget it. Not into the whole brushes and timing and whatever else that is associated with the brushed motors. MY wraith awaits someone's wisdom so I can get it running, or in other words... scratch the shit out of this bitch already lmao.
