Choosing a motor and ESC for your Wraith - Gearing Added!

Thanks Harley!
So I'm going to go with the MambaMax Pro ESC. My engine choices, Tekin brushless, but which one? Given the type of terrain etc... Then do I stick with the stock 20P and spur or should I up the ante on the gears?

Thanks again!
Todd

Motor choice is outlined more in the early posts. 13.5 and Pro4 are the two best choices IMO. Gearing is also covered early in the thread.

Thanks Harley!
In hindsight I should have been taking notes, or at least noting which posts pertained to my needs...

MMP ESC, Tekin Redline 13.5... Cheers to a fun build and a fun to drive RC!!!

So much information to take in. I've found some solid advice on water proofing too!

Cheers
Todd

Ive seen a few people running the castle creation sensorless motor, are they good or bad i know everywhere says get sensored but i dont know much about brushless at all, except for what i have read on here, so whats the difference in sensorless

We say to get a sensored for a reason. Sensorless is useless for anything except full on fast running.

Thanks man thats what i thought, also what is required to swap to 32p gears, is it as simple as just swap the pinion & spur?

Harley,
Can you suggest a better gearing for tekin RS + tekin 17.5 combo?
Right now i'm running 87/20 in it..
Like this combo so far, wondering if i should put better gear on it..

OK I know the 12t Traxxas isn't the greatest choice out there for a wraith.BUT...Has anyone tried one with stock spur and a 14 tooth pinion on the stock ESC? Or if some would know how it would work out let me know.I'd like to know how it did on low and top end please...thanks guys.

OK I think I may have the hang of the gearing thing now.....LOL maybe....
So if I run an 80/14 combo that would make it 5.714 to 1. That would give it more torque. but less top end. but with the Traxxas 12t I would gain some of the top end back. Am I even in the pall park???LOL

You are on the right track. The only problem may be that you probably can't get the 14t to mesh with the stock spur. I don't think there is enough adjustment in the motor plate or clearance between the case and motor can. You'll have to increase the spur size.

OK.. I have a 87, and a 84 spurs. so 84/14 is 6 to 1. Because if I use the 84/20 it's still around the 4.2 to 1.So that's a no go.Will an 87 still fit behind the stock spur cover? If so...Should I go with the 87/14 for the 6.21 to 1?
