before i make a new thread.. i've been searching for a solution to my problem and can't find anythig amongst the millions of random threads and all the fragmented info. so thought i'd leave this here:
axial wraith rtr. only electronic modification is a 55t motor. running 7.4NiMH battery.
when i get into binds on a rock, the steering servo can't re-center itself.. and when this happens, the throttle becomes unresponsive beyond the caveman forward-reverse-forward-reverse on the remote which suddenly will cause things to roar to life with a short burst of full-throttle fwd or reverse (which can't be healthy on what's left of my plastic pieces.
however, if i lift the truck off of said cursed rock and jog the steering wheel on the remote back and forth a couple times the servo "catches up," centers, and then throttle and everything is back to normal.
ok, so what i'm thinking first is i may need an external bec? the castle unit commonly available for $20? but it seems i need to buy the castle-link programmer for $24? idk. and the cast website is amazingly vague. the faq is questions my mother would have, no real tech or instructions and the pdf "manual" is more simple than that which came with my ikea bed frame. i'd call them now but it's 9:30pm and i've got to do something proactive towards fixing this since getting tied up in rocks is what these trucks do, and this is completely debilitating. The thing that sits in my mind is in the beginner's guide it says "If you plan to run the stock ESC on 3 cell you will be required to run an external BEC, a Castle BEC is the hands down choice for this." now this is regarding crawling with lipos. i'm crawling, but not on lipos... but does this still apply and is ultimately my problem?
more exotic possible cause: maybe my batteries are old/reduced capacity/needing replacing? i notice when this happens the headlights dim as i'm hitting the gas. but i think my batteries are ok.. rated at 3aH and i've been getting run times going on an hour+
EDIT: what i've tried: re-bound the remote/rx, cried, cussed, typed this reply. it's probably a common problem, so common anyone with any experience will lol at my ignorance. hopefully someone has a solution before i spend 1:1 money on all new running gear.
