Choosing a motor and ESC for your Wraith - Gearing Added!

I will chime in before other go and tell you to read the first post...

Get the Pro4 3300kv. I have gone through to research and suggestions and landed on a Pro4. Run 3s lipos for sure and make sure you sticking with the 50c packs, they will give you the boost of power when you call on it.

Ok, i understand but i read somewere that the pro is to BE paired with the RX8 because the rx8 ir delivers until 200 amps and the mamba max pro doesnt so i am a bit confused and why not the rc4x 6.5 2 pole? A litle cheaper and maybe ir Will produce less heat because its a 550 can motor or even a redline 10.5? I have read the first post and Lots of other posts here and other forums but as i said i want to rum cool and do foffingso some wheel speed is needed i am afraid the redline 10.5 William burn under stress load of foffing, thats why i suggested the 550 sc4x maybe the 6.5 turns.
Sorry for asking even after i read Hall the sticky notes about the first post. I run also a castle sct 2400kv on 2 s with a 50c lipo and a 28 pinion bit i Was trying to test 4s lipo to see if it stopps a litle the cogging and i Was trying also to use my 2 lipos in series for the castle sct and also use them in my new motor or 2s or 4s in series with 2- 2s packs. Or i Will buy a 3s just to play with the new motor.
Cheers

I have not ran any of the SC4X motors, so I am not sure how they would do for the 30% slow crawling you plan on doing. I'm also not 100% sure the 3300kv Pro4 will be enough for the Foff stuff. You are trying to pick a motor that will do 2 EXTREMES (foff and crawl). The 4000kv Pro4 may make the Foff more fun, but again it may make a little more heat.

Balancing your needs is going to be tough. I would definitely go with a 4 pole motor as opposed to the Redline motors though. You just have to decide which of the 2 Pro4's to get really. Most of us use the MMP with the Pro4 and have no issues.

Thanks a lot Harley so as you suggested i should get or the pro4 with 3300kv (maybe run it on 3s for foff and 2s for crawl yes?) or should i get the pro 4 with 4000kv and gear it a litle more low to not overheat, or the pro4 4600 and gear it even lower (because its a y motor will it produce heat than the pro 4 with 4000kv?)
Or should i use a tekin redline 550 sc4x 6.5t 3400kv and i can use it with 2s or 3s lipo or the sc4x 5.5 4000kv that only takes up to 2s lipo?
sorry for the dificult of the question but i will buy the motor (havent decided it yet, and doesnt want to make another mistake like i did in buying the castle 4 pole 2400kv, but i will get it and put it in a 1/8 buggy i have). and this new motor is to try to make the best mix of low end (a litle crawl and lots of foffing because where i live nobody has a crawler, but mostly slash and e-revo, and we gather around the beach and play, so i want to be able to play a litle in the dunes but still be able to crawl even i do it alone, because i love it, i am trying also to make them to buy a wraith so i have a partner to crawl also.
Please take a look at this project made by squirrel with the motor redline sc4x 5.5, after i watch this video i think the 6.5 or equivalent kv is the way to go, although i coundnt decide on wich motor to choose, but i am very close... I am betwen the pro4 3300 arround 150 usd or the redline 550 sc4x at about 130 usd. the torque atracts me in the pro4 but the lower temps of the longer can atract me on the sc4x 6.5, i guess i will be deciding on one of those two, what do you think HARLEY? IN YOUR OPINION, SC4X 6.5T 3300KV OR PRO4 3300, WHICH ONE IS MORE EFFICIENT?

Thanks in advance for the effort of all of you and your kind help, and sorry once again for the newbie question, but almost nobody recomends the sc4x because they are 550 can motors and it will have to dremmel the wraith skidplate to install it like i did with the castle 4 pole 2400kv.

I really can't say for sure which one is best for you.

If you are going to be doing the Foff stuff most then I am leaning towards the Pro4 4000kv motor. It just won't crawl all that well.

The Pro4 3300 crawls pretty well and has decent speed. I'm sure it would work just fine, it's just if you want that extra speed for the Foff stuff.

It's a call you have to make. Again, you are trying to make a do everything rig and that is hard to do. You will likely find a setup that is ok at both but not great at either. Make sense?

Sure it does Harley i know that from the start, as i told you i also have a castle 2400kv 4 pole motor, i gear it at 28 tooth and stock 80 spur, but i cant crawl with it. I know i will be missing something, or the speed or the low end, i will not blame you for your help, i know its the best of two worlds, so everithing is possible, depending on the view.
But cutting short, you do not recommend the redline sc4x at all right?
so you are leaned to the pro4 3300kv or the pro 4 4000kv right?
i can work with gearing after i buy it also.
I just want to know what will you do because i trust your experience, and i assume the risk of that.
Now, pro 4 3300 or pro4 4000kv wich one can i order?
chears and once again thanks for your help and kind answers.

I just don't have any expierence with the SC4X motors. I don't like to recommend them if I haven't driven them.

3300 or 4000.... I would have to say 3300 because I know it works. The extra speed of the 4000 would be nice but I just don't know if you will get any crawlability out of it.

So buy the 3300 if you want to listen to me :ror:

Someone is going to have to try the RC4WD 2spd transmission. Low gear for crawl and high gear for foff. I am willing, but want to get my burshless ordered first.

how about the price?? any thoughts?? what motor are you choosing to work with that RC4WD 2spd transmission?
I am in the same boat but i need to know as son as possible ASAP BECAUSE I HAVE A FRIEND THAT IS GOING TO BRING ME THE MOTOR FROM MIAMI, it is dificult to find rc parts in brazil because of the higher taxes, so the prices here rise a lot, and people order abroad but if customs gets it be prepared to pay about 65% of the price in tax over the price of the good and the price of the shipping, real high dollar... :(
Please let me know or else i will do what Harley suggested my friend is going next week and i have to put my order so that when he gets there the LHS already have the parts to deliver.
thanks for the tip.

Oh well I won't have it any time soon. Maybe end of the month. The tranny does have metal internals so I think sticking the Pro4 3300kv with it would work well. If my budget allows, could get it sooner.

Formula Offroad. Basically hillclimbs in loose soil with paddle tires.

ONe pro4 3300kv ordered!!!
In two weeks i Will post resulta and gear the hell out of It for foffing. Now gearing.
What do you think Harley? 56/14 32 pitch gears of course, i also Will buy the metal tranny gears the idler and the other one that is plastic.
Now for fofing? how about a 20 tooth pinion?
Any thoughts Harley?
Thanks again

I have a wraith with the Tekin 13.5 brushless and 48 tooth spur (32P) and 18t pinion, and it can climb anything i've tried so far, plus the engine seems to be ok (not more than regular warm), i ordered the RC4WD 2 speed for the Wraith because i also want to have the two extremes out of this rig, crawling and "foff'n". you can see a video of mine with the 48/18 gearing and 2.8 sand paws, it moves pretty well:

Do please expand on your experiences with the RC4WD tranny. Waiting for someone to do a proper thread on it before I can order it and do one myself.

My pro4 is in the mail "thumbsup" Then I realized I don't have a 5mm pinion. Found one at Tower Hobbies (shipping is spendy there but only place I could find a 20t pinion) so should get here the same time.

Keeping the stock 80/20 gearing (both are robinson hardened metal) the best middle ground choice?
