Choosing a motor and ESC for your Wraith - Gearing Added!

Sorry for this horribly noobish question, but could some one post a direct link to the pinion/spur gear (either 87/15 48p or 54/10 32p) I need for my Wraith. I am having a horrible time finding a set that I know will fit. Just not sure what exactly to search for.

Sorry,

Scott

Anyone.....?

:)

I see several different shaft sizes available for the pinion. What should I look for?

If they are listed for use on the Wraith/SCX10 they should work w/o modification?

I'm only running it about 10 minutes or so, she heats up quickly. One person mentioned it could be because I'm still running the stock steering links and that it is binding up from that, would that make it heat up so quickly?

No, highly doubt that has anything to do with it. Like I said, check the rest of your setup as I described.

I'd start out checking the rear axle to make sure you have the updated short shaft in there. There's a thread that describes that more in detail, but the old style basically makes you force it into the rear locker, which causes the gear lash between the ring gear and pinion to be too tight, causing a bind. Pull your rear axle apart and make sure the collar on the short shaft is really thing, almost knife-edged.

I've had a heat issue with mine from day 1 (RTR version). I've tried 3 different motors (Axial 20T..smoked, Traxxas 12T 550 Titan, Integy 35T V11 Pro) with many gearing combinations and the heat has still been an issue after about 10-15 minutes. Pulled the rear axle apart and found the old-style rear shaft installed.

So I have to know, did replacing the rear axel fix the heating issues?

I'm not sure, as I haven't replaced it yet. Waiting on the updated part to arrive from Axial. I did take a Dremel to the collar to try and thin it out some, but I haven't had a chance to take my Wraith out to play since I put it all back together. Should be able to do so tomorrow though, when it's 100+ outside at lunch.

Yeah, I took mine apart earlier this week and couldn't get it back together. Thought I was doing something wrong but it seems now, after doing some searching on here that I have this issue too. Sent email to axial last night. We will see what happens.

Hi. I burned my Axial 27t this week and I looking for new motor. I think about Tekin HD 35T – can you recommend use this motor in Wraith? Have you any experiences or another choice for brushed motor? If someone has already this motor in Wraith, which gearing do you use for 2S Lipo? I have Tekin FXR ESC.
Thanks

This is covered on the first page. You will also find gearing suggestions on that page.

Hey harley i was thinking of putting a viper 4500 in my wraith would it work, thanks for the help

Great info on the motor and gearing options and opinions. Has anyone factored in the RC4WD 2spd tranny? I am definitely wanting to order it but obviously that changes the need for lower turn brushless motor to get the speed I am after while still offering low gearing for some crawling, correct?

So I have a wraith I got as a kit that also came with a Castle Sidewinder SV2 Speed Control and (I believe) a venom 50t motor. I sorta fuxxored up, crossed the battery wires, and released all the magic smoke from the Speed control. So, time for a new one... But, should I spend 60 bucks on a new Speed control, or should I take this opportunity to "upgrade"? I see that an amazon, I can get a bundle with a motor. Another factor, I want to get up and running by this weeknd, so shipping times are a concern. I have amazon prime, so getting from there would be the ideal. I like what I have now, but maybe a bit faster then I currently have, but I like the torque thats there. Any thoughts?

Really most of this is covered on the first page. Just look at the sections and see what describes you most. Then pick from the options listed or something similar.

Hi there, i am a newbie and i want to know what the best motor to pair with a mamba max pro esc, i want to do some slow crawl and a lot foffing with sand padles, so i am buying 4 rims with a wider offset to make the axles wider and have more stability when it turns.
I would like to know what do you suggest.
I am considering tekin brand, but i am very concerned with heating issues, because where i live the average temp is 30 degrees so i would like something that will run cooler even with the load of running in soft sand uphills.

i was considering the sc4x motors from tekin

MOTOR P/N TURNS WATTS KV MAX VOLTAGE ROTOR
Redline SC4X 4.5 TT2243 4.5 900 4,800 2S / 7.4V 12.5mm
Redline SC4X 5.5 TT2242 5.5 815 4,000 2S / 7.4V 12.5mm
Redline SC4X 6.5 TT2244 6.5 745 3,400 3S / 11.1V 12.5mm
Redline SC4X 7.5 TT2245 7.5 665 3,000 3S / 11.1V 12.5mm

the pro 4 from tekin also

MOTOR P/N TURNS VOLTAGE KV ROTOR
Redline PRO4 4600 TT2500 1Y 2S 4600 18.5mm
Redline PRO4 4000 TT2501 2D 2S 4000 18.5mm
Redline PRO4 3300 TT2502 2.5D 2S-3S 3300 18.5mm

and the sensored redline

MOTOR P/N TURNS WATTS KV ROTOR
Redline Sensored 2.5 TT2261 2.5 730 11,900 13mm
Redline Sensored 3.5 TT2260 3.5 630 10,800 13mm
Redline Sensored 4.5 TT2259 4.5 535 9,300 13mm
Redline Sensored 5.5 TT2258 5.5 428 7,700 12.5mm
Redline Sensored 6.5 TT2257 6.5 404 6,700 12.5mm
Redline Sensored 7.5 TT2256 7.5 352 6,100 12.5mm
Redline Sensored 8.5 TT2255 8.5 295 5,300 12.5mm
Redline Sensored 9.5 TT2254 9.5 261 4,900 12.5mm
Redline Sensored 10.5 TT2253 10.5 243 4,500 12.5mm
Redline Sensored 13.5 TT2252 13.5 201 3,500 12.5mm
Redline Sensored 17.5 TT2251 17.5 131 2,500 12.5mm
Redline Sensored 21.5 TT2250 21.5 88 2,100 12.5mm

So i want to know wich one it will run best with enought power and low temps and with some wheel speed to go up the hills with no problem, i know the sc4x i will have to grind a litle the skid plate but thats no problem. I will be running 2s lipos from vennon 5000mah 50c, but i can also buy another kind of lipo 3s if necessary, what do you advice me?
Other brands may be suggested i just put tekin beacause its a named brand and lots of people use them, i would like to know wich motor, and kv do you recommend me to do both, some crawls 30% and 70% foffing.
Can you help me on that?
thanks in advance
cravo
