Binaryterror's Late 2012 Rebuild - T1E Sniper

I also plan to make some cross braces for the shock mounts out of aluminum tube. Just for some safety addition.

Definitely not needed Jake...but if it makes ya feel better...rock on "thumbsup"

I ran my big fat berg (5.5lbs.+) without braces between the shocks forever and never had any issue (granted, I'm not a basher)

The forward bias looks like all you will need to do is hook a tire on a vertical ledge and that back end will float right up! It looks like its going to be quite the car to beat!

Absolutely no binding or touching the chassis/cab during the suspension cycle. I really only left them on the truck on the outside as a way to change them quick for the first running of the truck. For our comp this weekend they will be removed.

Cool...just curious "thumbsup"

Yeah I was shocked myself to be honest. But I'm used to running a BJ4 and even mounting direct to this Sniper chassis it's still way wider than I'm used to.

Thanks for the Boss Claws! Got those today! "thumbsup"

And a few more DLUX bits "thumbsup"

Well after 1 full day of figuring out battery mounting (why do I love 850's?) she is running. Going to head out tomorrow and get some time on the truck before our comp. If it rains, I'll go to our indoor spot. This truck needs at least a few packs in it.

As shown above, RTR with 850mah pack and 3.4oz of knuckle weights she comes in at 4.99lbs . I know I didn't expect it to skinny that low, but we'll see what happens.

Once I get Farmer to Clap the Boss Claws and mount them to the T1E CF wheels...this truck could be much lighter than 4.99lbs.

So got some time on the truck, glad I did because I fixed a few things that stabilized it and made it more friendly to my driving style. Lowered front link down 1 hole (was in center of 5). Added a few spacers to the rear upper links at the mount. At first it was twitchy and hard to drive for me. So I grabbed tools and tried some things. Believe it or not this is the first truck I've ever tried settings, usually copied online/Farmers changes and went from there.

After Sunday the CF DLUX rear link mount is going on. Time to play with those rear upper links and see what that effects and what I can learn.

BTW I was able to get 850mah packs in. No binding and they haven't slipped while driving. I'm going to try to grab pics in detail of that. Or maybe leave that to one of our Club guys with camera skills.

Also hope to have pics/videos from Sunday's comp if someone will hold my phone for a run or someone brings a camera.

Looking sweet man, looks like a real winner.

Looks like it truly is a winner! https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AhWUhY1crTg8dGU3NGhGSEwwcUEzeXF1LUlDQnlUdXc

Rumor has it this thing dominated today! Nice driving, Jake!

Thank man, truck drove well and was not the twitchy style I thought lighter trucks feel.

I got a few more tweaks, but it handles well and won.

Front is in hole 2 out of 5 and rear is in 2 out of 4 (1 is bottom). This greatly changed the feel of the truck and got it under control. Drives very nice in slower style I do but works when you need a jump or burst of speed. Super happy with the truck, but I got a few changes to get it ready for Nationals.

Well the truck was not happy I was tired, hungover and out of it. Maybe being out of it helped me find a few areas I want to improve though.

Truck has one issue, now it might be the stupid tire combo I'm running (Khaos fronts and Sedona rears - soon to be boss claws) and the motors really need to be cut and cleaned I was fighting to keep the rear motor slower/start lower than the front all day - all signs of needing a good cut and clean as well as new brushes.

Also the new CF wheels and boss claws will be shaving some weight, so I'll wait to tune more until those are set up.

The issue I was fighting:
Truck seems to unload the rear end easily. I can float front tires, but when the rear tries it, it unloads and causes spring and it gets too unstable. I did swap to lighter front springs which didn't seem to help.

I'm not sure what to change. This is what I think I'll be trying soon with the freshened motors and boss claws:
- Lower upper links on the chassis (front and rear can both go down 1 more hole)
- Raise upper links on the chassis
- Adjust rear upper link with Dlux mount
- Change spacers on upper links

Seems like to me the shocks are good, maybe the oil is a touch heavy which I can swap as well.

Well the chassis will be retired for now. No major issues with it, just want something more like what I have run in the past. There was plans of me modifying the Sniper to reach that goal, but something else fell in my lap. Didn't love 60/40 or how wide the shock mount was, but that is the nature of the beast.

Instead I'll be running this soon:

That thing looks pretty cool! I can't wait to see it together!

If you need some assistance with the build, let me know... "thumbsup"

I am going to wait it out a little longer to see if my ideal situations will be a possibility but I'm having the same impressions of my current setup as you have with yours. If I don't end up with any viable options, I'm probably going to design up my own bodiless chassis to get the suspension geometry and performance I want and is much more refined than something without any consideration to dynamic suspension geometry variation and what the vehicle does when put into common situations....

But I'm just thinking out loud here....

Haha I have mine sitting on my dresser at home all I need is to find some axles and time to build it

Im glad to see the switch Jake. I think the new chassis will definitely suit you better

Sounds like somebody paid attention during machine design "thumbsup". Im curious to see what you come up with. If you need someone to run numbers by feel free to shoot me a pm

I never noticed the bent front cross brace onthe Hall's before. Is that to clear the upper link mount at full bump?

No, the nose has a taper. If you tried to use a non bend brace it would try and straighten out the chassis.

Bryce, I felt like i had to drive the Sniper at what felt uncomfortable to me to make it work and win. Sure it beat some good drivers, but i felt extremely pressured while driving so it was too easy to go from a great run to a blown course.

If you need help on your truck or the new chassis idea, would love to help out. I know a few things, but lack mostly tooling to be able to use any of the skills I did learn.

Polycarb!!

Yeah it needs some of those fancy new pullers to power it! "thumbsup"

I hear you got axles coming...? You gonna be my twin now? :lmao:

That's the goal, a truck that drives easy and feels neutral as I'm not very good at driving on the edge. I know many of you top level guys are, but I need some forgiveness.

As Erik said, its bent to allow the front to be really narrow. It looks amazing. Plus these DLUX corss braces are pure money. You guys need to buy them for your chassis's. So light and small compared to the old delrin ones.

I'll be starting a full new re-build thread as this will be my 2013 truck.
