B-MOW’s Vanquish VRD Str8 Carbon

Side shot view. Forgot to mention earlier about the wheel and tires. Picked up a set of Amazon specials. These wheels were featured by Mr. Canyon on Crawler Canyon awhile back and I loved the look of them. The tires are the Mix Racing Tusk knockoffs. I have the same tire on my Vanquish Rock Pirates build and they do great. I stuffed them with a set of Injora green silicone tire inserts.
I added scale hardware on the bead lock rings. Looks much better than the black oxide screws they came with.
Also pictured and not mentioned is a Hobbywing Fusion SE 1800kv motor. Hard to beat these for the price!

So with the body that I plan on running, the stock VRD sliders will be too wide. You can see on the green tape the outline of the edge of the body.
I bought a 1/16”x1-1/4” aluminum angle from my local Menards. I took off the stock sliders and transferred the holes and shape to the alum angle. Cut and drilled to make a more narrow slider.
I filed the rough edges and then used Scotchbrite to smooth out the edges and roughen up the surface. Shot them with a couple coats of matte black paint. The paint will more than likely not last long, but they sure do look pretty now!
Also pictured is the Hobbywing power switch holder. I had to cut the outer edge off of it because the new sliders sit taller and was hitting the switch holder.
Also pictured and not mentioned yet, is the 3D printed battery tray that sits directly behind the VFD transmission. It bolts in under the rear body mount that is bolted to the crossmember. This tray is the perfect size to hold my Ovonics 2200mah 3S battery packs.
Next up I cut some flat aluminum stock to make the rock sliders. These are cut to match the shape of the body and will stick out just beyond the body about 5 mils to help protect the body from rock rash.
I’ll leave these sliders unpainted. No need to put paint on them since their job will require a lot of rock rubbing which will wear off the paint.

To get this build up to date and as it sits currently, the repurposed body that was previously mentioned is now mounted.
This Power Wagon body came with a used Rock Pirates Interceptor chassis and other items that I bought off of @Fricker08 last year. The plan was to resurrect that chassis and pieces and reuse the body. BUT, it found its way to a storage container and has been there ever since.
So when I started this parts build, I wasn’t exactly sure what body to use. I thought about buying the new JConcepts Anvil Cab body and still may later on. To save a little cash now, I decided to see how this PW body would look and fit with the Harley Designs bed. After a few cuts and trims to lower it down, the body was mounted. This is an overused body that many now have come to dislike, but since it’s basically free and fits, I’ll be running it until I decide on its replacement. I may throw some paint on the outside to give it some weathering or just leave it like it is. Not sure yet.
As you can see, the home brewed sliders follow the contour of the body. Just enough overhang to keep the rocks off the body. I did have to trim the front inner fenders so they would tuck inside without rubbing the body.
I’m assuming this is who painted it. If anybody recognizes it, then leave me a comment.

My buddy Mitch Hoover painted that. He use to be on here years ago I think but now he’s just on FB. Looking good man

It’ll be fun to go head to head with my Carbon portal to see the differences.Picked up a 3Brothers Atlas Micro Pro servo winch during their Easter weekend sale. This will be my first micro servo winch. I’m hoping this rig is light enough so i don’t burn it up too quick.
Install went good. Mounted a flat plate next to the steering servo. The lil’ winch just barely fits in that space. There is about 2-3mm of space between the spool and servo.
Made a fairlead plate out of a scrap piece of aluminum. Cut to fit and mount on the stock VRD plastic bumper. Used a spare Element RC fairlead I found in my spare parts bin.
Cut the front grille out of the Power Wagon to fit around fairlead plate.

Add some Sharpie detail to the panel lines to make it look more beautiful!
