any crawlers in MN?

my gopher chassis is finally getting painted. i just put on my first coat of metallic blue. i got eh broken tap out of the shock mount hole over christmas break and now i am going to get it fully painted and clear coated today, and possibly start building today or tomorrow. i also discovered that the only springs i could find at hardware hank that fit well inside the shocks are way to powerful. the whole weight of my torsion crawler could barely fully extend the shock, and it cuts the shock stroke length in half. i am going to try running 100wt and no springs and test drive that. if that doenst work well i will buy some internal shock springs from rcp.

Stormin, what is a novak goat? I'm dumb."thumbsup"

Hey Maddster, The Goat is a inrunner brushless motor and ESC made by Novak Electronics. :)

We have passed our deadline in talking about the rules. We had the rules just about wrapped up, then the TCS Edge was released. This is the Edge:
DSCN0631.jpg

This was intended to be a tuber, but there is question about wether or not it should abide by the tuber specs. The arguement is based on the idea that it is a TVP chassis with a tuber body welded on top. As you can see in the pic, none of the links or shocks attatch to the tube. All suspension is attatched at the flat metal portion (TVP).

Last year it was asked whether Griz's SW2ber would be allowed. This is Griz's SW2ber:
attachment.php

On Griz's rig the links and shocks attatch to the chassis and not the tube portion, just like the Edge. The only difference is that the tube portion on Griz's rig attatch by nuts & bolts, instead of it being welded on. It was ruled that Griz's rig would have the abide by the body rules for it's sizing which is larger than the tuber specs.

The theory used for last year's ruling is that if you remove the tube portion that the vehicle could still be driven. If we apply that to the Edge then by the same rights it would have to fit the Body size requirements. And if we allow the Edge, would we now allow the SW2ber to run the same size as a tuber?

This has led to other questions about other tubers that don't have tubing for the bottom half of the chassis (yes Mike, the Gopher has now been questioned). Does a chassis have to have tubing down by the skid in order to be considered a tuber? Or as long as part of the suspension (i.e. the shocks) attatch to the tube portion is it ok? I don't think the gopher or any currently allowed rig is in danger, because we don't want to outlaw a chassis that was once allowed, but in the same respect if we outlaw the Edge or SW2ber, or even just make them comply with the body rule measurements, that will affect other chassis's like the Gopher. Also, if we allow these chassis's, do we need to allow the TVP chassis that's shaped with the profile of a cab to run without a body? If not, how do we regulate it?

We want to be able to regulate the chassis's that people run to prevent people from running rigs that don't look appropriate for our sport (battle bot looking rigs).

As you can imagine this has been quite the debate. People are expressing views from every angle, and there seems to be no easy way to do it. What do you guys think? I want to hear your thoughts.

Hey Pimp, unfortunatly the new TCS tuber is more of a tube body for the AX-10 it's not really a tuber IMO. Maybe if there was a way to attach some body panels it might look more realistic as it stands the realism is very low.

Good for you Tman you've hung in there on that gopher I hope it turns out really good for you"thumbsup"

I am sure that Kevin will be posting up everything that we went over today.

Here are a few quick things we talked about.
*Changed from the 60 point out to 40 point out rule, 40 point DNF, and 50 point DNS. This should keep people from falling back so far in the season totals.
*Dig is still legal, rear steer is still not legal. As Kevin pointed it, its best for any of our drivers that go to nats, to be used to driving a rig that fits their rules.
*We will try a 6 minute time limit to help keep the flow going.

Some members still want a scale class as well. But we do not have the time to deal with it during our comps. So I brought up the idea of running it after the 2.2 and super runs are finished, and only running a single course. This would be for fun and bragging rights, nothing more.

As far as rules go, lets keep it simple.
*Any manufactured 1.9 tire, no cut tires allowed.
*4" max belly height
*Frame must extend over the center of either axle.
*Tube frames must look scale, the gohper would not pass.
*No car bodys
*Tube beds or flat beds are ok
*No limit on wheel base or track width, as the tires will limit the performance if you make your rig to big.

feel free to give opinions on the rules, I just made these up as i typed this reply. and keep in mind that this will run later in the day.

And my new keyboard for my pc is junk... i need to return it tomorrow, the shift key doesn't work most of the time. And keys will randomly not respond, plus of list of other issues. pretty sweet deal for a $80 keyboard.....

Mike Pretty much covered it.

We've decided to run the USRCCA rules without any changes.
Key notes:
  • 40 pt max per course
  • 40 pt DNF
  • 50 pt DNS
  • Dig allowed
  • Rear steer not allowed
  • Time limit now implimented: 6 minutes
We also discussed the changes in the USRCCA rules. Some of the rules are still being discussed (see my last Rules Update). I will update everyone here with those updates once a decision has been made.
Key notes:
  • "Stage" is now refered to as "Course"
  • Body size
    • '10 scale' removed from rules
    • Just needs to meet 12.5" long, 3" tall, and 5" wide
  • Anyone named Ryan automatically gets a 10 penalty for each comp he uses dig
  • Touch penalty
    • Any touching of rig (reposition, repair, etc.) classifies as a touch
    • Only exception is a rollover
    • 10 point penalty
    • Once touch has been called the rig must be placed at the last gate cleared
  • Boundary markers and Tubers are still being discussed
As far as our series goes:
  • Run 2 series again
  • We will waive each person's worst score per series again
  • If the Nationasl invites work the same, our first series will determine invites
  • I'm making a new scoresheet for us to try out
Troy and I also hashed out a schedule after the meeting (at the majority's request)
MNRCRC's 2008 schedule:
  • Spring Series
    • April 13
    • April 27
    • May 11
    • June 1
    • June 8
    • June 22
  • Fall Series
    • July 13
    • July 27
    • Aug 10
    • Sept 14
    • Sept 28
    • Oct 12
  • Other dates:
    • Aug 29-Sept 1= X-Games
    • Oct 26= Howl Krawl
We tried to be as fair as possible. We overlap the DragWay series twice and the Nitro Series once. If there are any major conflicts with the schedule please let me know asap.

Otherwise I think that's everything. I hope you like the new rules Ryan...you should have been at the meeting.:flipoff:

I agree with the RYAN rule 100%.

There should also be pointing for Bigballing which is running more than 6 rigs on any given day in or out of competition

I disagree.... When he brings that many rigs, and I break my crap I still have something to run

Excellent! I'll be flying home March 3rd so I should be able to make all the comps. Look forward to crawling with you guys."thumbsup"

Fine, I will just go play with myself...wait I already do that. I sorry I missed the meeting. Had other plans that took too long.

As for the penalty for names, you can all call me SIR.:flipoff:

As for the Baller penalty Norm spoke of well mark me down for a permanant deduct. I am and will always have more to break in the car.

Ryan

Thats a good point, maybe they should be deduct points  for letting us play with his stuff. He's got a lot of toys you know.

We look forward to your return home soldier it's time to put away your vagabond shoes. "thumbsup"

Stormin, you were missed at yesterday's meeting. Hope you're ok."thumbsup"

I have that cold that everybody has been sharing lately. But thanks for the call and for missing me your my favorite rock crawler "thumbsup"

I knew you'd like it. I've also suggested it for the USRCCA rules too.

Kevin you a$$, you probably did! Oh well, the world loves haters, and I love you guys.

Norm, heres a deal. Anyone who breaks can use my rig to finish. However your negative progress points become taken off my score?

Ryan

Rules Committee Update

Unfortunately the Ryan Amendment got voted down.:lol:

But here's what has been decided about the most recent real topics:
  • Boundary Markers
    • Boundary Markers stay alive
    • Vehicle must be driven back onto course without making forward progress on the course.
    • No additional Boundary Marker points are accumulated until the vehicle is completely back on course.
    • While attempting to get back on course all penalties apply except the previously stuck BM
    • Course designer can modify the rules as needed to reflect the intentions.
  • Bodyless vehicles
    • Must be a self-supporting frame.
    • The roof must be raised from the main chassis to resemble a cockpit
    • Must have solid hood, solid roof and solid side-panels.
    • Bodyless vehicles should resemble a 1:1 vehicle.
We are finishing up the exact wording, but this is what we're starting with.

Sure, here' how it works whenever you loan a rig you get some points removed. What's the problem with that? ;-)
