any crawlers in MN?

My chassis' plans are slowly coming together. I will check with my Machine shop and see how things are coming. I really like this idea. I think it will keep costs down some. Those who have scalers now, let's try to stick around on Sunday and go over some more? This Sunday the big dogs are coming out...

Its good to see some support for this idea :)

Another rule we could add to the list would be that the battery must be mounted to the frame. So no axle or link mounted packs.

Here is a quick price break down of what someone might spend on building a truck for this class.

Axial axles $50
R2 tranny $80
K2 chassis $55
Links and ball ends $30
Pede shafts and steel yokes $50
Novak rooster crawler $80
Lathe motor $20
Lexan body and paint $35
Body posts $8
Rims and tires $60
3300 stick pack $20
Hitec 645mg servo $40

Total cost - $528

A lot of us have spare parts, so our lists would be shorter. But if you were starting with nothing, this would be the end cost. And one could be built even cheaper using the Axial tranny, a cheaper esc, and building their own frame.

The fun to be had................Priceless

What about making it manditory to have a driver figure of sorts?? I think it would add a lot to the scale aspect.

I don't want to deal with any required scale details other then keeping the body full. Leave it simple and fun, people can trick out their rides if they chose too :)

Gotchya.......can I have my 2 cents back then?

Lookin forward to meeting on the 26th.

CYA then

Our winner is freetimecrawler!

He gets the opportunity to continue keeping track of the MNRCRC "thumbsup"

I like this idea as well but I think we should be able to use our spares.
For instance I don't want to go out and buy a brushed motor and ECS. I have spare brushless equipment and no brushed stuff.

I do like the idea but we'll see wait to see the final rules you guys create.

The majority of my allowance will go to my comp machine.

I want a place to run my not so good stuff.

I have enough stuff to build a scaler right now. But it's not exactly your suggested formula.

Keep it simple.

6 cell
Sprung or links
2.2 or 1.9

no dig
no Goat systems

I should have finished my Jugg tonight... But as always scalers before comp rigs, right?

I wanted to get started on another scaler to bring to the X games, this will be a quick build, nothing fancy. Just a steel frame, thats true to scale for a jeep. Steel bumpers front and back, body sliders, and steel fender flares to replace the lexan flares. 4 linked wheelie king axles, haven't decided on the tranny yet.

I wanted to build something with All T tires... But this might be to much? I'll be going with a droop suspension, and with the steel flares I should be able to lower over a inch. I am going to worry about the tires after I setup the 4 link... See what clears the body once the axles are bolted up :)

Here is a teaser pic, the frame of course is true to scale using a YJ frame, even though it is a TJ... I am not sure how much changed with the TJ frame when they did away with the leaf springs. But it is what it is.

well i talked to jerry and he said my rock claws will be in on friday. now i just have to wait a week to get my wheel hexes so i guess i wont be using them on saturday at the x-games. i decided i will go. how many gates for the course are we looking at? i heard possibly 2-3 and that sounds a little small. and i dont want anybody getting on me about not helping because i offered and if someone would go just 2 miles out of their way i could help out.

aren't you forgetting shocks? i've never seen a 4-link without shocks or at least leaf springs. also, i was wondering mike if you were planning to make a k2 axial scaler? i remember you talking about doing something with the axial crawler.

There will be more than 2 or 3...We should have enough material to make each stage at least 7 gates I would think.

No one will get on you. I appreciate your offer to help, but it would have been difficult to bring you down to the cities where the carving was taking place. It looks like Friday we will be up there laying out the course.

I guess I forgot shocks...

When I get a axial, I will run it stock for awhile. From there I have no idea what I will do with it yet. But I would not buy a K2, I have yet to buy any chassis. I prefer to build my own.

Ohh and on the gates, I said I should have enough in portable course my self, for 2-3 gates. That was not including the other portable coruse, or real rocks we would be using. Though my portable course did not go so well last night... I might be able to finish one of them, but its not looking good at this point. But I am going to pick up a good pile of rock tonight.

We were talking last night too, about the course size. And I suggested that maybe we run shorter stages, but run 3 stages rather then the normal 2. This would break up the day better, and give spectators more chances to catch us crawling.

I will probably be going to the hobby shop tonight to pickup spare drive shaft parts for both of my trucks.

Hey guys... I haven't been on here for a while, but I'm looking forward to actually TALKING to you this year. I'll be helping with the Mini-T track again. FHF has some more helpers so it won't be a solo mission this time, freeing up some of my time.

I'll have the Wheely King along, in it's embarrassing state of half-built and ugly chassis'd...

We should be showing up mid-day Friday, I assume I'll be immediately put to work on the Mini track LOL.

It'll be nice to see you again. I'm sure like last year we'll be right next to you again. Freetime and I will for sure be making a couple trips up there on Friday as well. My week has already been busy, but Fri will be probably the busiest. We're going to have a few scalers up there this year too. It should be blast! See you soon."thumbsup"
