any crawlers in MN?

Hey guys, we only have about 16 days left until the X-Games. We have some foam blocks to carve and coat by then. A few of us have started on them, but there is plenty left to do. We are also trying to get more blocks to have a larger course. We need more people to step up and help out, or we will be crawling on just loose rocks like last year. The more people that help out, the faster it will go. Please post up if & when you can help out. Thank you.

Where (town) are you guys working on these? Weekdays or weekend?

Chris (IntimidationRC) has been storing the stuff at his place in West St. Paul. As far as when, pretty much whenever Chris is ok with people coming over.

i just realized that i had forgotten to say something awhile a go so i would just like to thank troy, kevin, mike, and casey for helping me construct my crawler. i have been through 2 comps without serious breakage. i spent 4 hours today just doing maitenence and locktiting screws, and i actually enjoyed it. for some reason i enjoy doing maitenence repairs.

OK , if it is ONLY going to be Chris , Troy, Kevin , and myself working on this damn course, if it gets done in time for the X-Games , i am going to Charge $5.oo per entry to run on the course , Not included in the entry fee for the Xgames itself......

u understand that some people are on a limited budget , and some are on tight time schedules and have busy lifestyles, but if that is the case how the he!! do you get to comps , some people can help out this is B.S.

Jeremy,

If you go back and read the MN. thread from the start, you'll find those same names sparking most of the activities and responsibilities at the MNRCRC from the beginning. You should all be commended.

I'm sorry I can't be of much help.

I'd be willing to chip in Greg's and my share of the out of pocket costs you guys have incurred for this X Games bash no problem.

My question is what does the Promoter do for the MNRCRC? Gives us marketing, fun? what? We all party till we drop? Wreck our equipment? He could at least be responsible for the crawling site. I assume he's charging at the gate for the event? I'm new, but the X Games seems to be having stressful effect. In my opinion it shouldn't even be a part of the points season. It's a special event comp and probably not the most realistic.

Just sounds like this event doesn't raise enough interest to get it done.

Sorry probably not a newbies place to RANT

Storm, as a MNRCRC member, it is your place to rant, share idea's etc. We decided at the beginning of the club to run the club like a democracy. That takes everyone's thoughts/idea's, and help. As for the X-Games comp, last year it was a special event comp. This year we decided to add it as a regular comp in the series, hoping to get more competitors/interest.
It's a fun event, Skinny from Extreme RC mag dubbed it "The Woodstock of R/C"
Last year, we had interviews with Anna Curtis on the tv show Inside Rc, and a small mention in Extreme RC cars mag. Some of last years X-Games clips of my 2006 Nationls 2.2 Bug are on the opening intro of the new show RC Insider still featuring Anna "the doll" Curtis as host.
The promoter of this even barely, if at all breaks even on the cost of the whole event.
We do this event solely to promote RC crawling, and our MNRCRC group.
The promoter already has his hands full building the awesome race track.

Any definite word on cost yet?

$5 gate fee sounds like a given.

Someone mentioned $10 entry fee last year but I haven't seen any definite mention of the fee for this year. I looked at the website and no mention of a specific fee for the rock crawlers. The racing class fees range from $45 down to $20...

Anyone got any info?

Thanks,

Troy,

I'm sorry it's not my dog, we won't even be available that weekend.

It just might be true that all those things should motivate?

Just hasn't been much interest or support for the temporary track building.

My offer to help with the out of pocket expense for "Mad Mountain" or what ever you guys are working on is the only way I can help the club. You guys are doing a great job!

So I'll shut the F U "thumbsup"

The crawling is $10.00 entry per class. Plaques will be awarded 1st-3rd in each class.
The gate fee is $5.00 and is good for both Sat/Sun.

i havent been to the x-games yet, but if it is in cambridge again if someone headed up 65 to work on the crawling course can go a couple miles out of the way i am willing to help if i'm not in school then. i live in isanti and go to school in cambridge and it is where everybody around here goes to shop and hang out. so i know where it is and it is only 9 miles north of isanti. so if you guys need a hand i can help if i am free and can get a ride. i have almost nothing to do out here besides ocassional chores and school starts on sept. 5 for me. i just have to run it by my parents. and i am a good worker. Even though i may help i may not be able to afford the entrance and gate fees together. i do not have a job because isanti is a small town with little options for work, and i applied everywhere i could last spring. so i just earn a bit of money from chores.

So while I was sitting here at work, well standing I should say... I had a idea for a new class we could try adding for the 2.2's. A sport mod class, a scale driven class with a few rules to keep the price down. Scale accessories would not affect your score, but they still look cool.

Here are the general rules I was thinking of for the trucks.

  • 6 cell stick packs, no side by side or saddle packs.
  • Single brushed motors only, no brushless.
  • 2 frame rails that extend over either axle.
  • No dig
  • limited to 2 channels (you can have a winch installed, but it can not be used on the course)
  • 2ws only
  • Truck or SUV body required, only fenders and bumpers can be trimmed.
  • Tires can not be cut or modified in any manor
As for course setup and scoring, I was thinking we could start with only running a single stage. Either run it between the 1st and 2nd stages for 2.2 and supers, or after the final stages.
[*]Battery must be frame mounted, off the axle and links.

Any thoughts on something like this, or am I all alone on this idea?

Etype, that sounds cool, I am out for the games, but I'd be up for this as a reg comp class throughout the series.

I know I still am somewhat a "outsider/noob" but I could have grabbed some at the last comp and did'em up between then and this one to help out (hind sight being 20/20). But after the games , if you guys plan on a bigger course I'd be in for grabbing some and doing them on the side for later events.... (hearing a winter series somewhere??) "thumbsup"

i think running it after the final stages would work better. most of us dont have scalers so we shouldn'thave to wait for a few people if we need to leave to go somewhere. just tack it on to the end and those who want to can stay. sorry if i offended anyone but that is my opinion.

Hey thats why I tossed out both options :-P

I think it is a great idea Mike! I have had the most fun with the Scalers to date. I really enjoy the comp rigs but the scalers, are for me, more fun. Haveing limits on the devices and options keeps it more competitive as well. My .02 cents.:flipoff:

I need to finish my jugg this week, but after that I am going to start my WK truck. Current plan is to build a truck that would fit these rules, using the WK axles and a steel frame.

Here are some rules taken from RRock, they have 4 classes. I posted the full modified stock class, and two parts from the legends class. I like how they word the frame coverage, Frame can be no shorter than leading or trailing edge of tires. Also they have some good body rules as well.

Modified Stock Class

Axles must be mechanically geared. IFS or solid axles are allowed. Axles must be located in such a way the only change to wheelbase is due to reactive forces. No manual or mechanical change of axle wheelbase is allowed. Axles must use some form of 100% locking device.
No portal axles or gear boxes after the axles are allowed. All axles must be automotive based.
Winches may be used to control axle movement but not individual tires.

Winch in working order is required on the vehicle at all times while competing. Rope or cable must be in acceptable and safe condition. Winch must be mounted securely to frame. Winch bag/weight must be used during all winching.

Full roll cage on open top rigs is required. The cage is the safety bars surrounding the driver. Cage must be designed to protect the occupant in the event of a rollover. 6 point mounting cages covering the driver are required. Connection positions of the roll cage must tie in to the frame of the vehicle. Body mounts are considered a tie point.

Frame and body and firewall must be of O.E.M style. Frame can be no shorter than leading or trailing edge of tires. Minor body trimming and flat front fenders is allowed. Overall wheelbase must remain +/- 3” of stock. Grill must be stock. Hoods must cover the entire engine compartment and follow factory form. Body lifts are allowed with a maximum of 3”.

Suspension can be either IFS or Solid Axle. IFS to Solid Axle conversions are allowed. Front suspension can be either OEM Leaf Spring or OEM Coil type suspension. Rear suspension must remain OEM style from factory. (i.e. If a vehicle came from the factory with leaf spring rear suspension it must keep leaf spring rear suspension but regardless of the factory type front suspension, leaf spring or coil is allowed)
Not allowed: Manual Suspension changes, coil over shocks, double shackles, quarter elliptical springs, buggy springs, fox shocks, air bags, and coil springs if not factory style springs.
Allowed: Long arm bars, spring over axle, expanding-type shackles, shackle reversal approved for leaf springs.

Steering must be mechanical. Hydraulic assisted stock steering is approved. O.E.M or stock replacement steering is allowed. Full hydraulic steering is not allowed. Rear steer is not allowed in this class. Steering must be mounted in factory location. Axel steer is not allowed in this class.

Brake guidelines include mechanically operated brakes. Hydraulic assisted brakes are approved. The brake pedal on the floor must operate all brakes at all times. Secondary brakes are not allowed. Brakes must be in good working condition.

Electrical components must be in a condition and position that is safe. Lights must meet state and local laws.
Batteries must be in good shape with adequate mounting to keep the battery in place in the event of a roll.

Tires must be automotive based tires. All factory built tires from any manufacturer are allowed. The tire size limit is 35”as advertised on the sidewall. Vehicles must have no less or more than four (4) independent tires.

Seating must be mounted to the tub using the factory mounting points or to the roll cage. There must be a minimum of two (2) equal sized seats that sit side by side.

All safety requirements and safety equipment listed in RROCK course rules are required.

Legends Class

Frames can be OEM, aftermarket or custom built. Frames must be 2” x 4” or larger rectangular tubing. Frame rails must be vertically mounted 4” tall x 2” wide. Rectangular boxed or semi-boxed frames are approved. Frame Rails cannot be any shorter than the front of the front tire. Frame Rails cannot be any shorter than the centerline of the rear axle. From the Firewall back, the frame rails cannot be any closer to one another than stock origin at the middle of the chassis and the center of the rear axle for the year of the vehicle.
From the Firewall forward, the frame rails may be narrowed to 24” outside to outside frame rail width.
Frame rails must be consistent in height from side to side. The bottom of the frame may not be any higher than the top of the tires between the tires. (meaning: at the center of the vehicle.)

Body and Firewall. Firewall must be complete and of stock origin. Grill must have the appearance of stock. Hoods must cover the entire engine compartment and follow factory form. Hood scoops and breather holes are acceptable. All body panels must look like an O.E.M. body panel of proclaimed vehicle. Vehicles must have some kind of front fenders. Vehicles that are tubed and/or cut in the rear must have body panel coverage that resembles O.E.M. Tailgates can be removed.

I'm up for this. I enjoy driving the scalers more than my comp rig. This means Ryan, get crackin' on those chassis's!
