a quick question for you gun gurus

Sunday is the Kane Cnty sportsman show at the fairgrounds there in St Charles (near where you are this week). They almost always have good used scopes and 1 booth manned by a couple that I dont think speaks english, that have all the cheap scopes you could want. Go over and look at them in person. If you want someone to go with... I might be encouraged.

I spent $80 on a bsa 4-16x40 for my range ar. I didnt have the cash for teh Nikon m223 that I want and I wanted to get shooting. Ive put over 300 rounds thru it and can shoot 1" at 200 yrds. It is possible to shoot well with a cheap scope, just not as likely.

Awesome bro. Ill have to go up there. If you like you could go as well but I will have people to go with so it's up to you. Do you have any idea what time it starts?

not sure yet, there is a shop (Mooches) that sells a .410 double barrel darrenger I have been wanting. He offers a $30 discount if you pay at the show, then pick up at the shop. Ill pm you if I go.

Ok guys let me know how I did. Went to that gun show and picked up the only long eye relief scope I could find. It's a Simmons pro hunter 4x32 I only paid $25 so if its a crap scope I won't be to disappointed.

Ive used Simmons before, not high dollar but as long as the glass is clear and the adjustments work, it should work ok.

How bad was the crowd? I ended up working on the Jeep all day.

glad to hear it, the crowd wasnt to bad. we didnt get there till around 1230 so most people had already left but it was still a pretty decent sized crowd. most vendors were starting to pack up but a mojority of the vendors hung out for a while. they had alot of really nice stuff there, i wish i would have brought more money. i may have walked out with a new m1 carbine or garand

You can do worse than Simmons in the optics world but I personally wouldn't trust it. It gives you some experience for now and if it holds up you lucked out and If it fails or disappoints you don't be surprised.

The advice about spending *at least* as much as the rifle on optics is very sound advice.. Anyone that thinks otherwise learns that lesson if they stay in the game long enough. I've had several sub $200 scopes fail on me and will never waste money on cheap optics again.. Optics is truly a subject where *you get what you pay for*.
