im buying a scope for my mosin but since i dont know much about them im trying to get some advice as to what i should buy. im looking to keep the price under $100 under $50 would be better. i know thats a tall order when it comes to scopes. i was at cabelas earlier and they had some upwards of $300 but i cant justify spending more $ on optics than i did on the gun. i have been doing some research and have found a few promising sights but since ive heard many, many stories of cheap scopes loosing there zero due to the heavy recoil on the mosin i want to be sure that what i get would be the best.

heres what im looking at getting right now

Amazon.com: UAG Mosin Nagant 2-7x32 Long Eye Relief Scope + New Generation Weaver Rail Mount + Scope Rings+ Lens Covers+Lens Cleaning Kit: Sports & Outdoors

its got 4.5 out of 5 stars so im thinking it couldnt be bad. thoughts?

heres the page i found it on. the page has many scopes for under $100 but alot of them wouldnt work on a mosin because the eye relief is to short. for where im mounting it i need 8-10 inch eye relief

Amazon.com: scope long eye relief: Sports & Outdoors

thanks in advance for the help"thumbsup"

The Bushnell Banner scope is decent for money, same with BSA. A 2-7x32 will be a good size for the Mosin. However the scope you get will have to tailor to where you are going to mount it. The bolt handle on the Mosin often gets in the way of the scope.

look at pistol scopes. They will give you good "scout gun" eye relief. UTG are cheap and believe it or not, an American company.

While your in Town, go to MegaSports in Plainfield.

A $50 gun with a $1000 scope will shoot better than a $1000 gun and a $50 scope. Save some cash and spend the money to get a good quality scope. I don't hold any allegiance to a brand but most of the serious shooters I know swear by swarovski. A larger tube will give you better light during low light shooting so go as big as you can.

Buy a rifle worth putting a scope on

I thought the same thing... until I got a wild hair and bought a Mosin. That SOB will drive tacks. I only used it on my personal range at 75yds but, I had a 3 shot pattern that Siamese'd the bullet holes with iron sights. Ive had $1000 guns that didnt shoot half as well.

it will be mounted where the existing rear sight is thats why i need the long eye relief

yes but like i said, im not spending more on the scope than i did on the gun thats just a waste of money. instead of buying a $300 scope i could buy a $200 rifle with a scope already mounted. it may not shoot as good but were talking a differnce of centimeters on a target

soon...

the mosin is a great rifle it really depends on the condition. the bore on mine is immaculate im wondering if it has ever been fired by anyone but me. when i went to the range with it i shot a group of about 1-2 inches at 50 yards and i wasnt shooting for accuracy i was just shooting. consider that most mosins that saw combat usually shoot 4-5 inches at 100 yards. not exactly precise in the gun world.

Buy some kick ass $100 binoculars, cut them in half, then you'll have two kick ass scopes.

Don't forget to smoke a shit load of weed first though. You wanna do this right...

$50 scopes are for red riders.

Spending more on a scope than on the gun is by no means a waste of time. You can move it to the next firearm if you move along in the hobby. A waste of money is a $50 scope.

And what do mean "not shooting for accuracy"? Why the hell did someone sell you a rifle if you were just" shooting".

you make a good point. on the other hand though, me personally if i buy something for a specific rifle or a rc or anything for that matter i like to keep it with said rifle and not switch parts around. but thast just me. i understand how you could think a $50 scope is a waste of money but there are alot of good quality products out there that are good enough. as long as it keeps its zero and isnt horrible quality i will be happy. but thats why i posted this thread. as i said i dont know much about optics so im enlisting the help of rcc to help me find the best scope in my price range

oh and it was my first time shooting the rifle so i was just out there enjoying it. i was obviously aiming i just wasnt taking as much time as i should have to make sure each shot was as good as it could be. ya get what im sayin?

you can get a fair scope for 100 IMO

I have a redfield 5 star iluminater I bought 20 yrs ago its on my bolt winchester 243, scope was more than the gun
I also have a refiled wide view I got closer to 30 yrs on my bolt 30-06 rem.
scope was about 1/2 cost of gun.

I pickked up a simi rem 30-06....needed put a bushnell simulare to this on it
Bushnell 4-12x40 Trophy XLT Rifle Scope

I cant find my exact scope, but I bought is close to 20 yrs ago at walmart for my 22....its big for a 22, but I was cutting string at 50 yds at the time.

We only used bushnells on our rim fires, we didint feel they had the quality to handle out higher calibers. So we was sceptical when we swapped it onto the
30-06.

I sighted that sob in annd she was good to go, I stalk my deer, so it gets bumped alot.
I have as much faith in that bushnell as I do my redfields.

BUT, I use high quality scope mounts too.

They may weigh more, but I want quality in my mount.

so get a cheap scope....( doesnt have to be high power ) and save some cash for your mounts.

same here. i got a really nice set of $100 rings for an amazing $10. i forget what brand they are though. the scope will be mounted the proper way. which on a mosin means removing the existing rear iron sights to reveal a 3/8 dovetail underneath. an excellent place to mount a scope!

just looked up a bushnell banner. they dont seem to have any that have a long enough eye relief. i think the most they have is 6" i need about 9" of eye relief

If you take the rear sight off of a 91/30 there is a 3/8 dovetail mount. Get you a set of rings and a NC Star Pistolero scope.
