A deeper look within the Redcat Everest 10 crawler

PAGE 50! Good lord that was a long read. I will add to the thanks for all the great info in this thread.

I've been out of rc for probably 15 years. New to crawling. Just ordered an E-10 "for the kids" but the more I read, the more it looks like it will be mostly mine... and my shopping list is getting long. :lmao:

I love the way all the scale stuff looks, but am afraid for my wallet.

I have the ordered the RC4WD 540 35T motor and the HSP connect boxes. I will swap the shock and link positions. Not sure if I will venture into motor mirroring quite yet.

Tires, shocks, and maybe switch to lipo on the horizon. Then maybe a new chassis to stand the shocks up. "thumbsup"

Not without some major mods to the frame. Even then, probably won't fit using a front mounted motor/trans and a center mounted transfer case.

I can make a SCX10 width skid plate with E10 transmission bolt pattern that will mount right into your cage.

Sorry for all the dumb questions, i’m a total newb at this rc stuff. Will the 2-speed trans not fit because of width, or because it is too long? Or?

It won't fit because what you shared a picture of is a transfer case rather than a transmission. You must have a forward (or rearward if you're into the weird stuff [emoji38]) mounted transmission which will have a drive shaft going from its output shaft to the input shaft of the transfer case. The transfer case is mounted mid chassis like the stock motor/transmission on most crawlers & trail trucks.

Basic concept is the same. The chassis plates are different shape. Electronics on the Redcat are "waterproof". I don't think the electronics on the Maxstone are alleged to be waterproof, only water resistant. I bet they're the same though.

Other than that, I believe you can use parts from one on the other.

Ok, lots of great info in this loooong thread. It's pretty awesome how everyone can make their E10 their own.

I'm looking for some recommendations on what order I should make mods to my Everest. After using it for a month and being really pleased with how well it does for a budget crawler, I've gotten the bug to mod it... and it's a big bug. Inspired by this guy's post earlier in this thread (http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/redc...-redcat-everest-10-crawler-9.html#post5156980), I have an old TJ body that I'm trying to repurpose. It's 1:10 scale, but the wheelbase is a lot shorter (3 in shorter) than the E10. Because of that I'm making a new ladder style frame; going the breadboard route until I finetune the shape/measurements/holes/etc. From there however, what are my next steps? I'm obviously looking to avoid ordering parts that won't be the right fit down the road when I complete the next step (shocks too long or whatever), or completing steps and then finding out I need to go back and adjust them.

Is there a recommended order to do all this stuff?... properly?! Ha. Lotta moving parts (pun intended). Here's where I'm heading, but your thoughts would be appreciated:

Use body to determine what wheelbase is
Use wheelbase and body to determine specs of frame and where shock mounts/skidplate go
Use those measurements to shorten linkage lengths/driveshaft and proper pinion angle and bring axles in
Install 1.9 wheels/tires (optional but this fits better with the scale look which is what I'm going for)
Measure for shocks
Figure out how to mount the body, battery and where to fit components
Anything missing?

Ha, actually both of those look exactly the same as I have. Yours looks like a newer model with the pocket fenders and other minor differences from what I can tell 99% the same. Mines off of an old Nikko I had for years so maybe more like the red.

Love the fold down windshield mod. I was thinking of doing the same because it's begging for it already since it's a separate piece. Great scale look too! Have any more pics of the black one on the threads somewhere or details on the build?

So i got two Maxstone 10’s for my kids, same axles, trans, shocks, tires/wheels as the everest. A couple of nice upgrades that they offer are metal servo horns, the shock mounts are tied to each other for better support, and they each came with 3 sets of shock springs in different spring weights.
