A deeper look within the Redcat Everest 10 crawler

Hey guys, I'm new to this forum, new to RC too. I just received my Everest today and waiting on the battery to charge. I have researched what platform to get for a while now and this thread had much to do with helping me to decide. I am not new to some hobbying, I was into 1/24 slot cars a few years back and really enjoyed building custom chassis. The reason I decided on the Everest 10 is 1. Budget- I'm a working dad with too many hobbies as it is. Needed to keep the initial cost down. 2. I like tinkering. If I'd bought a top of the line crawler I'm afraid there wouldn't be enough excuses to upgrade. (Need good excuses for wife). 3. Looks like a well made budget crawler to begin with anyway. 4. You guys have put SO much good info in this thread I don't have alot of searching to find good solid info.

I went ahead and got the axial cross lockers and a rc4wd 35t motor to start with. I'll probably put the lockers in first because I want to get in and grease everything up anyway. The motor I'm going to wait and just see how I like stock. Like I said I'm new to this and I'm going to take my time and let my preferences come natural.

One big thing I have planned is to do a tube chassis. I loved building 1/24 scale drag car chassis and was pretty good at it. Also I have a full scale Jeep Cherokee rock crawler and I have some buddies with rock bouncers so I'd like to do that to this eventually. In the meantime I'm going to get the Cherokee body and make a mini me. Thanks again for this great thread and I'll keep yall posted on my progress as it goes.
 
Maybe someone can use this idea. I didn't like how there was a big gap between the lower link bolts for rocks to snag, so I made some little plates to cover the gap.

That is sweet. I might do that with mine. I was also wondering if have an axial chassis, would there be any benefit of switching to it over the redcat cradle?
 
Or get a ax10 skid the inbroads the lower links at the skid, but you would have to redrill two hole so the trans can full mount securely.

All they aare wheel hex extentions. They fit over your hex and the barrel nut goes through your wheel and extention to thread on to the axle shafts. So there shouldn't be a problem with your lockouts. Only problem there could be is the wheel center isn't big enough for the barrel nut. Which you could drill that out so it fits.

appreciate that advise, would like to still see some pictures to see how much increase in width total and if it looks gaudy or not,
i could imagine more stress on parts too
 
Has anyone swapped chassis to run leaf springs yet? I have been thinking about that but I don't think the axles will support a leaf
 
I literally just read about it in the last 3 days but can't remember if it was here or on the "Redcat Crawlers and More" Facebook group.

It has been done, but you'll have to fab a mount for the axle.

As far as I know of I'm the only one to do so. I used 1x1 aluminum angle to make mounts/mini trusses. Still need to make shock mounts and get pinion angle shims to correct the pinion angle but I got them mounted. I have been meaning to share this in here.

A winch is more of a scale item for a scaler type rig which the e10 in Stock form is not. However, if you're wanting to build a scaler with it, I would say buy or manufacture a ladder type chassis, buy or manufacture a bumper to mount on it, and mount your winch to that. If you're wanting to keep the vertical plate chassis, I would say you could probably manufacture some type of crossmember in the chassis to mount the bumper to and run the line out through the front of the body.

Links and shocks are bolt up. Axle parts take a little modification but easy bolt up. Chassis both scale and comp. Trans with a redrill of two skid holes. I ve read metal trans gears work in stock trans but need to swap to axial outputs.

Good to know ive read people swapping lockers and axle parts commonly but wasn't sure if they were plug n play type deal or not.
