A deeper look within the Redcat Everest 10 crawler

Got my 'Spiral' 87t spur and 22t pinion. The description said that they would be alot quieter than normal cut gears and the mesh is easier than normal gears... But it makes more noise than the stock brass(?) pinion and plastic spur. I think they meant these gears are quieter than normal cut 'metal' gears. IDK.
Anyway, still running strong.. I will get some video of what I can make it do on the carpet... lol

Edit) I did order that all aluminum tranny case and gearset. From China, so it will be next month some time before they arrive.

I also found some Aluminum body posts for like 3 bucks or so. They are also longer than the stock posts but looks like they can be trimmed down to whatever length you want with a dremel and a little sanding..
Compared to the 20some bucks they want on the redcat site, I couldnt pass them up.

I've snapped a couple redcat shafts that were made fit an axial locker. Haven't broken an axial shaft yet

Axial units are actually thinner which is why the HSP/Redcat unit has to be filed down to fit the Axial locker. I suspect that the material is stronger and that because the fit is correct from factory there is no slop or movement that will gradually weaken the metal.

The fit was fairly tight. Had a 35t in it and comp tires.

I haven't had any issues with the redcat dogbones breaking thus far. I changed my front dogbones to axial based universals to achieve a better steering radius. Still using redcat dogbones in the rear and the hsp aluminum locker so no filing necessary.

i have the axial ones now but was getting ready to return them since i found my stockers were in fact steel.

maybe i should just keep spares but honestly i dont see me breaking a steel axle shaft.
maybe when i go with the 35t it may be a different story dunno
 
On a similar topic, can the e10 guts be used in an scx10 housing, more specifically the SSD dana 60's?
Yes. I fitted the HSP/E10 diff gears in an axial housing. However they are not a direct fit. The diff crown is actually a bit bigger thsn the axial so it just touches the housing but will wear within a very short time. But also due to this size issue the pinion sits too close to the crown so I was forced to dremil the back of the pinion down until it ran smooth. I'll find pics.

The lip/step on the back is too big. I filed/dremiled it down to about half it's size.

Thanks, that answered my question. My son's e10 is looking/working pretty good these days and those SSD housings would make a nice addition... maybe for his next gift-giving holiday.

No shit, that's all I had to do? I thought the gear mesh was a little bit different or the whole gear was a little bit taller so I bought acxial ones. I've been waiting for a week for them now , could have just done this and been ready to go

Just ground mine flat and they're not working. You can definitely see where it's riding in the housing though

I filed them then inserted and checked then filed again until I felt it was right. If you filed it completely flat you might have taken too much off and it might need shimming. Or you haven't got the inner bearing pressed in all the way or it's the wrong bearing.

I I checked the bearing spec it measures out to the correct size because they axial ones are a little bit bigger than their Everest. They are pressed flush at the base of the housing. it's still difficult to turn once you tighten the four screws on the housing. my axial gears should be here tomorrow I'll measure them against the Everest ones and see what the difference is. They turn fine with just the chubs on. If I pull the output shaft out it turns nice. I'm not sure what I have going on

Try running a file or dremil along the inside of the housing where the edge of the crown gear hits. I think i might have taken out a bit of material there so it didn't rub.

I'm using 35T and 3S lipo (smaller pinion though).
