3S brushed setup; is the AE-2/5 ok?

I hate the AE-2 and AE-5. I'm a huge fan of the HobbyWing WP1080.

since im a n00b and not picking on your reply or starting... just curious what makes it better? i see the price is good for that unit...
Personal preference. The Axial AE-2 is too large for my tastes (even if it's marginal compared to the competition) and programming it without a card or computer is a royal PITA. And I just have never found it to be all that smooth. Then there's Axial's crazy price when really you can get the same thing from Castle for cheaper.

The AE-5 is unreliable and has given many people problems. The HobbyWing WP1060 is more comparable to this ESC, but better and it's about half the cost.

The HobbyWing WP1080 is super smooth, has a lot of settings, and you can program it without having to unplug it from the receiver. And the programming card is included for $40.

If you want something even better than these two there is the awesome Tekin FX-R. It can be had for about $80 on Tower's website with the $15 off of $50 coupon.

As a newb I'm confident you would be more than happy with the HobbyWing WP1060 and even more happy with the WP1080.

I just killed an Mtroniks Rock C in about 10 minutes last night and looking to replace it with a 1060 with a BEC
I'd use the 1080 myself as it's great spec for the price but already have a spare 1060
