1/6 Hemi powered Willys Jeep Hot Rod

Thanks everyone.

Would be nice to see a "comp" of some kind.....my fear is rules getting out of hand. Too many is a bad thing, should just be run what ya brung......if you look at all the builds everyone is different, most of the chassis are hand made, ZoSo is the only one I know of selling things as far as vendors goes.

Thanks, it was a PITA getting the arches by the headlights to look decent. That was all done with hand files...SMALL ones !!

I am still trying to find light buckets and lenses for it though, need 1" dia, non working on this one but I need to rear section to look good as it is exposed and easy to see.

its looking great D! I have been looking at the small flashlights at the local auto parts stores and thinking they would make great light s for a crawler. They sem to come in all different sizes, led or conventional bulb style and I also see them in the checkout lines at the local lowes and home depot..grill looks great I feel your pain working woth small files!! oh and One more thing I have learned it to use areamer or a step bit to get the final size on holes in metal as the regular drill bits tend to leave the opening a bit 3 sided...

Thanks buddy. I have been too, think I'll be OK.

Major body overhaul happening now, the engine and front grill were sitting too low. I "channeled" the bottom of the body to recess the frame rails up into it. Had to go a lot, new floor pan and center council needed now.

That's the fun part of making something by scratch, always more mods needed.

Damn, you just made a lot more work for yourself, but the end product will be worth it."thumbsup"

Your correct there Walter but it needs to be "right". I wouldn't be happy with it any other way. The way it sat, the grill was almost a 3/8" too low.
I'll have time tomorrow for sure, the wife is having her family over for a Pampered Chef party...I'll be locked in the shop, Projects, football, racing and beer PERFECT DAY !

Update time.
After mocking up the grill, I noticed it sat too low, time to do some choppin

Recessed the chassis 3/8"

:shock::shock:

It looks great, I'm drooling over the grill. What is the width of the vertical slots in the grill?

I'll measure them for you tomorrow Walt...I know the openings are 1/4" wide but I forget the width.

Sorry about some of the crappy pics.....need to work on that !!

1/4" width is what I needed. "thumbsup"

I got some .125" thick styrene over the weekend, I want to try another grill for the orange Jeep. The plastic supply company that sold me the styrene showed me some commercial quality adhesive for styrene, it works better than straight MEK and it it doesn't stink nearly as bad.

Here's a few pics. I tried to show a bond joint but the camera is showing it's age, close up Macro shots is something it never has done very well.

nice, easy to use applicator. Pour mystery fluid into it, turn it over and give it a gentle squeeze, it wicks right into the joint, you can see the edges bubble up then it grabs pretty fast.

I made a few test joints. Once the glue joint set up for 24 hours, I tried to tear the joint apart, the styrene tore directly above the joint, you can see the whiter area in front of the vertical piece, that's the styrene from the glue joint.

Thanks so much for sharing the adhesive info walter 8) This stuff is made by the same people that make the PVC cement sold everywhere around the area where I live (Indiana), and prob across the whole country. Shouldn't be too hard to find. I'll be checking some sources and post any info up.
(Found it! McMaster Carr Part No. 7528A13 1-Pt can 15.95)
I want to appologize about jacking this thread Darin. I did think when I asked the question that you might want to know too. I was glad to see you did!
I don't know if I've commented on your build or not, but I want to say this is one fantastic build "thumbsup""thumbsup""thumbsup" I was dumbfounded when I first saw the magazine article on it! Coolness level is way up there, and this build of yours is right there too 8)8)8)8)8)8)8)8)8)8)
