Time for another project.
I found the next large scale project I want to build, for now the main subject will remain a secret until I get more parts together but I do have the power plant that’s going into it.

I am going to modify it from strip to street use. I’ll be adding alternator, water pump, upgrading the ignition and the like to make it street friendly.

Here it is in stock form.

As you can see, the valve cover is upside down, thought this was funny seeing as it was sold complete as a collectible.

Here are some pics of what I am after.

Here it is in hand and stripped down. All the chrome will be stripped, trying for the polished aluminum look instead.

Looking at the plastic hoses, ya that just won’t work. Time for real SST braided lines. Much better !!

I will be doing a complete MSD ignition system as well.

Start of my version. Just Paint so far.

Next we need an alternator. I had one from another engine, not to bad in stock form but it needed detailing.

Here is mine so far. You will be able to see the windings when I am done. Took me an hour to carve out all the openings on the bottom and sides.

Well that is all for now. There is a lot left to do on this and I am waiting on more parts.
Keep an eye out for updates.

Thanks for watching.

Re: 1/6 Hemi upgrade

Bob, you were not suppose to notice the Ford alternator !! The blower motor did not come with one, need one for street use though.

Yes, those are the stock steel covers, may mod them, not sure yet.

And now a small update.

Worked on the exhaust, heat weathering done.

Polished aluminum finish is drying now. More updates later.

Re: 1/6 Hemi upgrade

More from last night.

I have all the blower pulleys set up. I had to extend them out a bit so I could have a drive pulley on for the alternator.

Fabbed up a belt guard system as well as the tensioner mounting bracket.
IMG_2721.jpg

00-80 bolts. They are a perfect match to the molded in bolts.
IMG_2722.jpg

Coil wired up with MSD wire colors (orange and black)
IMG_2723.jpg

Plug wires started, this id the spark plug end.

Here is how and where the alternator will mount.

All for now.

Re: 1/6 Hemi upgrade

The attention to detail is awesome man! I really dig the belt guard and the tiny little wires in the alternator. This is gonna put whatever build it is going in over the top! "thumbsup"

I have a lot of small details left, wire loom and clamps, run all the electrics, make a radiator.

Stay tuned for more guys.

Re: 1/6 Hemi upgrade

stellar job that looks awsome, love the heat detail on the pipes, whats it going in? 8)

Re: 1/6 Hemi upgrade

Thanks, the pipes were fun to do as well.

Project vehicle is still a secret, need to get more parts before I reveal it.

Re: 1/6 Hemi upgrade

haha i have a simular scale something or other, that kinda thing would drop in nicley..same scale pretty much
again nice job"thumbsup"

Re: 1/6 Hemi upgrade

Hey D, didn't mention it on Scale4x4 but the polished aluminum look you have got looks really good. I like it better than really shiny chrome, gives it a realistic look!

Re: 1/6 Hemi upgrade

Thanks Rock, I found a paint that works well after a little polishing. Took a little work but the effect was worth it.

Re: 1/6 Hemi upgrade

Nice Very Nice :)

real engine: the reason that the distributor looks weird is because that is a 8 or 10-71 blower. It blocked the stock distributor out put. a standard MSD distributor wont fire with the amount of fuel needed. It really needs a msd magneto. I know you are going no going to run nitromethane mix but did you know that dragster/funny car engine is very close to hydrolock with the amount of fuel they use. If they lose enough spark every thing goes boom.

My father had a 1969 road runner with 426 hemi. I have been a huge fan ever since.

Please dont get me wrong. I love the build. It is turning out very cool"thumbsup"

Re: 1/6 Hemi upgrade

Thanks slick, can you explain a little more details for me? Is the distributor incorrect for this?
You are correct in saying no nitro-methane, it will be a street engine. Let me know please, I'd like to get it as accurate as possible.

Re: 1/6 Hemi upgrade

Man I wish ya would of told me. I have a Metal casted and polished alternator and and MSD distributor. I purchased these in hopes of using them, but they are too big.

Lets see them Norm!! I may have a use yet, ya never know.

I did get that MSD Ignition box you showed me though, might be a little on the big side, I'll know once I get it all together.

I think a magneto is much cooler than a regular distributor.

Here is a current day top fuel funny car engine.

Those dual mags look very cool, but for a street engine one will do.

I hope this helps I have been a big fan of your builds. If you need more info I would be happy to chat :)
