Thinking about picking this up ( Bigfoot Classic 1/10 scale RTR ) but would like to know if doing a 4wd upgrade would be possible? Also how difficult and costly it would be? Essentially I like the RTR aspect ( mainly b/c all the electronics are included/ ready to go) and I'd like to turn it into a crawler if possible.

I tried searching, so apologies but no luck.

I don't think there's any viable way to convert a Traxxas 2wd to 4wd, the drive train platforms are completely different.

That said the Traxxas Bigfoot is basically a 2wd Stampede, the simplest way to 4wd convert that is buy a 4wd Stampede & swap the bodies.
Option then is to keep or sell off the 2wd.

I really appreciate the assistance and experience that exists here! Thanks so much guys. I know that neither variant is the ideal crawler but I love the F100 Bigfoot body and the price of this kit. Will likely now get the Stampede and use that ( Raptor?) body to bash and buy the old-school body for show.

If going the Stampede route, looks like I'd also want to replace the wheels and tires with more period-authentic Firestone Terra Grooves and deep-dish wheels... although I realize that there are much more appropriate tires and bead-locks out there for crawling. Seems like a fun project to mod this and have a few different tire/ wheel/ body combinations for different situations.

I sincerely appreciate the help, guys!

The best option here is to get the body and put it on a SCX10, TRX4 or other good crawlering/scaling chassis. You will likely have to do some adjustment to the wheel base, but other than that it should be easy.

Didn't even think of it till now, but the Ascender ( that I already love so much) has an adjustable chassis. Hmmm... will continue to research a little more.

Thanks, Greatscott.

I bought a rtr MST MX-1. MST is the brand. Wheelbase is a direct match just had to mount the traxxas body. Very good truck for monster trucking. And the look is spot on!

The only thing that I don't care for with getting an Ascender or MST MTX1 is all of the additional expense... battery, lipo charger, etc... And both the Ascender and the MST are considerably more costly than the route that I initially wanted to go also. Even with the 4wd Stampede, I would have to additionally acquire the authentic wheels and tires as well as the F100 Bigfoot body. I'd also like to not have to paint this one. I didn't realize that the only Bigfoot bodies out there are unfinished shells.

Sorry... just thinking out loud here. Wanting to keep things as inexpensive as possible although I know that with what I'd like to do ( and have a competent crawler) means that there will be some degree of expense.

Really appreciate the wisdom and advice... Thank you guys again.

You might want to consider an Axial SMT10 Maximum Destruction because I've seen it go on sale for $270 several times now at Tower Hobbies. It's 4WD and it articulates surprisingly well with the swaybar removed. Also the slow gearing and permanent drag brake ESC are usually negatives for most people, but they would be positives in light of your crawling goals.

My recommendation kinda falls apart when it comes to making it look like Bigfoot, but you could sell the body and orange wheels on ebay to offset some of the cost. Worked for me.

Well after doing some more research it seems that if I really want to outfit whatever true crawler chassis with true Bigfoot looks, I'm going to be spending a good chunk of change.

I'm looking at doing a Stampede and getting an already painted Bigfoot body ( which I originally didn't even think existed). Anyway... I found the F100 Bigfoot body online but they're $109. Add to that, the cost of the Stampede, the authentic deep-dish white 2.6 wheels, and Devastator monster-truck tires and I'm easily into this project for about $445.

Not sure if I can justify this expense to the lady of the house lol.

Just buy the Bigfoot, remove the body and store it - enjoy bashing the Stampede with one of the $19.99 prepainted custom Stampede bodies I see all over eBay.

Take detailed measurements of body, research best chassis & other parts to use, keep an eye out on eBay, the classifieds, and RC Recycler for those parts, and eventually build a solid axle crawler/mud bogger/monster truck.

After the obviously intelligent suggestions here, I've realized that my dilemma ( besides the lack of limitless disposable income lol) is that I'm trying to accomplish too much with only one vehicle. It's the old adage of "what might work for multiple applications is probably not ideal for any one of those applications" or something to that effect. I need to step back and reevaluate what my primary goal(s) will be for this particular vehicle. Top priority is an authentic monster-truck look including realistic/ scale 60's, 70's, or 80's Chevy or [preferably] Ford body, and classic old-school wheels/ tires.

Traxxas Bigfoot- I love that it's relatively inexpensive, fast, ready to run, a solid jumper, and with the insanely well-detailed F100 body... just sexy as hell. Major disadvantage is the 2wd if I'm wanting it to crawl.

Traxxas Stampede- Next best thing... able to maintain similar speed and jumping ability as the Bigfoot. Although still not a crawler, the 4wd capability means that it at least has better crawling potential than the Bigfoot. Major disadvantage is that between the body, tires, and wheels... it's not at all the look that I want. That means spending a good deal of additional money on body, tires, and wheels... roughly $250 plus the $200 cost of the vehicle. And it's still not an ideal crawler.

Axial SMT 10-
Much better crawling potential but not too fast out of the box plus even more expense ( even if I find it on sale for $270). If going this route, I'd have to add: Bigfoot body, wheels, tires, Lipo 2s or 3s, and appropriate charger... making this one very expensive and not all that fun where speed, jumps, etc are concerned... even though much more crawl-capable. I also have concerns if going this route in terms of fitting the F100 body. I don't want to have to trim this body much if at all and the angled rear cage of the SMT 10 looks like it may pose a problem when mating with the shape of the body.

MST MX1- Pretty high price right from the get go by the time I add a couple batteries and quality charger. Plus I don't really dig the look of all the plastic tubing throughout that chassis. Lots of good things otherwise... 4wd, damn good-looking authentic Chevy C10 body/ tires/ wheels, brush-less motor, ready to go minus battery and charger, full bearings, HT servo, CVD's, etc...

Okay... I need to clear my head for a little while lol. I'm just not sure which direction I want to/ should go.

The Traxxas Bigfoot body also fits perfectly on the Clod Buster.

The photo is way too large to embed so here's the link: https://i.redd.it/cgdhff87x1ly.jpg

FYI - the SMT10 is probably the most expensive monster truck out there. The entry price is high and then you have to remember it's a slow, boring and weak POS out of the box. You need to put in anywhere from $200 to $400 to make it fun and durable.

If I were in your position I’d just get the big foot and have fun bashing with it while waiting till the funds are there for a proper crawler. My brother has a big foot and we have a blast with it in the cul de sac and out at fiesta island on some packed dirt/sand. It won’t crawl worth a damn but the Titan 12T isn’t much of a crawler motor anyway, it’s made more for speed, as far as brushed motors go.

Here's another idea:

Buy a Traxxas Bigfoot and a 4x4 Stampede. Swap the body and the wheels/tires between the two so that you have a 4x4 with the Bigfoot body and the monster truck tires and a 2wd Stampede. Now either enjoy beating the everloving hell out of that 2wd Stampede, or sell it to recoup a large portion of your cash.

If you're committed to using the stampede body, the wheelbase would be way off. Jconcepts has some nice bodies that fit the SMT10, but if you don't want to do body work you can take this one off your list.
