My 2013 Losi Sporty

Have been wondering about this for a while,-running an outrunner with no gearbox,-just mounting the driveshafts directly to the motor shaft.
And after seeing it on a French forum,-I had to give it a go ;-)

The motor is this 710kv non-sensored Turnigy :

Turnigy G15 Brushless Outrunner 710kv

Using a Traxxas ET-3 esc, 3s lipo, some spare axles, links, chassis and other stuff I had lying around,-I came up with this not so tidy test-rig :) :

Took it for a "spin" today,-and even though it's not sensored,-the motor behaved quite nicely :

Thanks for the link "thumbsup"

The motor-mount was done fast, easy and ugly with just a bent aluminum plate,-just for testing the setup ;-)

I'm contemplating doing this exact setup, I'm going to retread you thread and see if you put the parts listing in, if not would you mind specing out the parts used for the tranny originally? Before the out runner

Did you replace the shaft on the motor? The hobbyking link shows a single shaft output.

Love that you posted this! I wanted to try with a Revolver S but worried the KV was too high."thumbsup"

This thread now contains three different rigs. The first one with scratch built pan-car style tranny which I used last year and then the second one with the modified LNC tranny which I use this season. The outrunner is just for testing in a third car ;-) Sorry there's no parts listing,-but I can take some additional photos if you need more info,-as all three rigs are up and running today :)

I did not replace the shaft,-just loosened the set-scew and adjusted the shaft to come out at both side of the motor,-it's more than long enough for this mod. :) Hope you understand,my english is not that great

Third round in the series today and I got third place with the middle gear failure twice  Got another stupid repair-penalty after the second gear swap,-when I forgot to re-install the rear driveshaft........note to self: ALLWAYS testdrive after repair BEFORE entering the course again !! What an idiotic mistake !...

May have to fix some stronger middle-gears,-the Stampede metal top-gear can be drilled out to fit bearings,-I think ;-)

Three weeks to Nordics in Finland,-looking forward to some serious competition there 8)"thumbsup"

I use Hot Racing metal LNC gears, but I use the stock plastic gear for the JENS mod. You could lathe the metal middle HR gear the same way you did the stock plastic one.

So far I have had great success with the original gear that I modded, but after hearing about your failure, I also made a backup just in case.

Good luck at Nordics

Hey Jens,

you may could use a 20T pinion and drill a 8mm whole into it to fit the bearings as the stock one in the middle is a 20T gear, too :)

Good luck at Nordics, show the Axial drivers how a Losi is working:twisted:

The middle gear is 22T ;-)

Interested to hear how this thing really goes. I've seen several of these things in the french forum and like you I thought about it but I never tried. I would assume it works pretty good because there is quite a few guys who run them. And you can run a moa chassis if you want. And with maxx driveshafts you could get some serious link clearence.

Broke another middle gear at yesterdays training....may have to go back to stock LNC tranny with HR steel gears......;-)

Installed HR steel gears with 18t pinion,-moved the tranny 8mm to the right and 4mm forward, not as compact as the moded tranny,-but should be more reliable "thumbsup"
