Tanis's Axial SWX build Ol' Reliable

Only one I've really got Jim, I picked it up off a member here, but I'll be switching as soon as I get my hands on an Eritex unit.

what is a Eritex unit?

Its a new dig that Eritex has released. Check it in the vendors section.

First carnage this evening while out testing and tuning, snapped the rear housing right off.

It happened when I slipped off a 10ft ledge and landed on that one wheel, only cracked it, but after another 15minutes, it finished it off. Bent the rear straight axle a little too, not much though.

So I tore into it, and decided to swap my aluminum front housing out of my GC2 into the front, so I could swap the front plastic housing to the rear. Decided while I had them open, I would install some Bonus Line lockers I picked up this week. The Axial HD lockers are stout, but I like zero slop;-). I'll probably end up ordering another aluminum housing for the rear, just for peace of mind.8)

A few minutes later, all buttoned back up"thumbsup"

A little CA glue and your back in business probably. lol:lol:
I'm surprised that's all you broke from a 10ft. drop. WOW, no bent links?
The Traxxas ones on Rems crawler, (your old GC2) have sure taken a beating and are holding up great. That gives piece of mind know it "could" take that drastic of a blow.
I did the same "pen body" treatment to her links as well and noticed it does get over the rocks better and helps protect where the links meet the rod ends. (poor mans delrin I call it.)"thumbsup"
Nice build, I'm interested in seeing how the Aluminum axles do for you.

Maybe if I used the whole bottle of CA?:ror:
I was suprised it broke actually, taken a lot worse tumbles than that with my other Axials, latest one was a 50'+ tumble down a cliff face, nothing broke that time:shock:. This time, it was a 10ft free fall right on that one wheel, something had to give.

I swapped out the stock lower links with some homemade 8/32 threaded rod, sleeved with aluminum tube, with Jato ends. The stock axial rodends don't rotate quite enough and were binding some with the way I have my links setup. I should look into something a little more slippery for the tubing, but it hasn't been an issue so far. I might give the pens a try, now that I think about it, I have some on some links off one of my old supers I could shorten"thumbsup"

You gotta floor it as it hits the ground!
:ror::ror:Then it would have jumped off the next 20ft cliff right next to it:lmao:

I got a chance to take some footage of it this morning, I'll throw a vid together ASAP.

Update

So I made some changes"thumbsup"

Swapped in a DNA dig unit with steel internals

widened the shocks more

I took more off the rear of the body for shock clearance

Oh, and added BTA"thumbsup"

Forgot, I also put my Rovers on it. Belly clearance is now just under 2.5" with the Rovers.

Where's your front shocks huh?!
I don't know what you're talking about, they are the new Axial stealth version :ror::ror:
Must be some sort of super secret setup...He chopped his Shaggin Wagon!!! :ror:
I had to tell my SWX, just like I tell my girls when they're in trouble, this is going to hurt me more than it's going to hurt you:-P

haha, you know your a RC addict when you have RC stickers in what looks to be your kitchen!

Nice "stealth" shocks btw, any idea when there becoming available to canada?"thumbsup":ror:

That's not my kitchen, that's my RC workshop room!!......wait a second....for some reason my wife keeps cooking dinner in there:lmao:

I don't know about availability on the stealth shocks, somehow they can't seem to figure out a good way to count the inventory:mrgreen:

The poor DNA chassis gave up a part of itself so another could play. Film at 11:00 yet?
I finally cracked my original SSS, one too many falls off of 10'+ ledges did the trick. I'm quite pleased with how it held up, I beat and beat mercilessly on that thing trying to break it. Waiting on the new version of the chassis plates to get here;-). So I decided to experiment.8)

Now that's interesting. A DNAxial/Bender Custom's SSSWX. Talk about trademark infringement
:ror:
