Losi 1/10th Roller

I also ordered one i ordered a venom also its only money cant take it with ya and sure not giving it to the x

you simply need a more powerful motor, at the colorado comp a couple of weeks ago jason had his rock force out and burnt up the brushed motor in only a couple of minutes:shock: plus, you would hardly have any wheel speed, I would think
im new, why would it burn up

I am new at this as well. I was planing on buying an Axial until I found out about the Losi. Here is my question (which has kind of been asked but not completely answered). This will be my first rig and don't want spend a fortune. Can I put a regular motor and 7.2V system on this truck and make it work, or do I have to buy the brushless set up? I want to start with the basic stuff and then can always upgrade later if I like. If its going to cost me $600 to $700 to get into this truck, I simply can't afford it. It looks like an awesome truck though!

Thanks

I just gave up my 1:1 scale crawler cause it was too expensive. I was hoping this would be a cheaper alternative. Boy was I wrong!! lol

I know this isn't the place for newb questions but I am with jamieB on this one. I was looking at the Venom cause I can get everything I need for close to 600$. This comp crawler is in my opinion far superior than the Venom, but it looks like I will be in it for at least a grand by the time I am done. Not to mention the local track does not even have a rock crawl course set up (but was promised one soon)!

Can I use any 3 channel radio? I love the ds3x but that is where I could save close to 200$ if I can use a cheaper alternative.

Other than that, I am sold on this!!! Thank god I got to the hobby store after it closed or I would have ordered my Venom TODAY!!!

The thing about the Losi is the worm gear axles. Worm gears have a really high gear ratio and there is really no solving that without changing them, so to make up for it a higher speed motor is needed. A slower motor like a 55t won't work because it is too slow and won't be spinning the axles fast enough.

If you guys are wanting to jump directly into a comp rig, this might be it... but my attitude with everything is "wait and see".

Wait and see what the gear ratio is. I am sure you won't HAVE to run a brushless motor. You can get an Integy 35T-65T for what....at the most $20? Wait and see what the final gear ratio is before speculating on motors. Just because someone blew up a motor running RF axles really means nothing in relation to the Losi.

That is not really true. Just like all gears, worm gears can have very able gear ratios. The rest of the gear ratio will depend on the transmission. Depending on that ratio, a 55t motor could be just as fast as a 35t in an Axial. So yes, wait and see but your speculation isn't entirely correct.

Not to scare you off but you'll spend more than that on this rig if you want it to be competitive. If your looking for a first time crawler this may not be the rig for you. This is a competition roller. It will require a 3ch radio to control the electronics(Steering servo, Dig servo and speed controller) as well as other electronics that will set you back about 1k. A rig of this caliber may not be suited for the beginner. I would go for the Axial ARTR it's your gateway to RC crawling.

So the worm gear is suppose to eliminate torque-twist ? Is that the main advantage, or is there more to it.
I would think some twisting would be there still

It will work with a 2 channel (won't be able to use dig) till you can get a 3 positon 3rd channel DX3R $269. Should be able to use 7.2 and brushed motor but like everbody said wait till gear ratio comes out

Is this Not a top of the line truck? Why would you go have arse with it and not build it how it's supposed to be built? COMP Ready.

The roller is top of the line, and very reasonably priced for what you get, the rest of the parts needed to make it RTR are where a guy can decide how much to spend.

Not everybody competes;-)

And I'd suggest this truck to anybody just getting started in crawling, set it up how you want, from mild to wild in the electronics department, depending on your budget, and have a great performing rig.8)

Define comp ready...that's the beauty of this sport, diversity.

X2 well said

Totally agree with Tanis on this!

This truck is looking to be a Great Deal! And I think it would make for a Great first rig! With all the features included it really makes it hard to pass on! As stated before you don't need a 3-ch radio to run it you can use a 2-ch and Rich mentioned this before. So even if you only have a 2-ch radio to start with atleast the dig is still there when you get the chance to get a 3-ch radio to take advantage of the dig.

As for electronics like Tanis said this is where you can choose to spend you money as you see fit. The options he listed are very good and will still allow you to compete.

Oh and as far as the motor and 7.2 volt system like the others have said wait and see what will be suggested as far as the motor goes. It seems like it would be a tight fit for a 6 cell Sub-C Nimh pack (I am assuming this is what your talking about using?) to fit on this rig? It would probably have to be mounted on top of the chassis?

Make that X's 3!!! My girl and I wanted to get into RC Crawlers together since our full size comp rig still in suspension re-hash but I wanted to get us something that would be controllable for her. I purchased 2 "used" rigs from Tanis, (Awesome deal dude!!) complete RTR set ups and the will crawl the doors off any RTR, ARTR, or stock set up because they were built to be better than what you get out the door at the local hobby stop.
Not every one can be this lucky, but I will say this, I've seen alot of people on here with new trucks ask some of the most rediculas stuff and it's obvious they have no clue. buying a rig with some of the latest advancements in the sport and using "acceptable" electronic components to save costs may just give them bit of excitement they're looking for and get them in the game.
I say if you want to get into the sport nice, buy used and get your feet wet with something that has already been built to current standards. You'll soon find out what "built" means. Not every body comps, but EVERYONE wants to have fun.;-)

Thanks everyone for your input! I think I will be going to the LHS today to see if I can order one.
