Brand spanking new here and looking at purchasing my first rig (micro). I very excited about getting into this but I want to start out right. Any recommended knowledgable hobby shops in town to make my purchase? Or should I order from someplace online? I usually like to support local businesses but if no good one exists I can go online. Looking at getting the new Losi Micro.

Thanks everyone!

Only 2 local shops here in ABQ. Big Boy Toys and Hobby Proz. Personaly I recomend Hobby Proz. Bobby and the guys are great to work with"thumbsup"
But Big Boy Toys are good to work with as well, They are just way our of the way for me.
Either way, welcome to the area! Hope to see ya out on the rocks!

The Mico rigs are fun to play with. I have one... I just have to sneek it away from my oldest (4 yrs) I think she loves it more then I do.

HOBBY PROZ is the place to go Bobby and the guys are really cool and they dont have what you want they can get it fast. "thumbsup"

You know after looking at the google street pic I'm sure I've been in there before. I seem to remember it being pretty much a catalog order store with not much inventory....does that sound about right?

Big Boy Toys, Ya... that pretty much sums them up. They use to carry tons of stuff, but the last time I was in there, mind you it was 3 or 4 months ago, where was wasn't much R/C stuff.

Welcome to Albuquerque. I also like to support local shops but if you are getting into crawling I would recommend getting a Venom Creeper from RPP (vendor here at rccrawler) for $105 and building it or an Axial rtr or rtc. You may end up spending more money but in the end way more capable than the micro.

X2 on the Venom

For a budget crawler, I don't think there is a less expensive crawler than the Venom. There was a couple of them at last month's comp, and I spent a little time looking one over. They seemed to do VERY well on the rocks.

The only negative comment I have heard about the Venom is that the assembly manual is horrible, but it does go together. I'm sure you will figure it out

Losi makes good stuff, but I hear that the Micro is rather fragile compared to a 1/10th scale rig. The demo one at Hobby Proz is broken (not a good sign). Plus you can take the larger sized rig out on the REAL ROCKS!

Welcome to Albuquerque. I'm new here myself - 2 months now. Everyone has been really friendly here, and everything is close by.

link to venom creeper, its very capable!"thumbsup"
Too big. My reason for buying this is something to play with around the campsite on camping trips. With a wife and daughter space packing stuff away in the truck is at a premium. The size is my #1 priority, I'll get it as capable as possible for the size but can't go any larger to get it more capable.

Hobby Proz had none in stock but ordered a couple saying they'll be in on Friday. Very nice and they have much more stock then what I experienced the first time I was in there (they were between subway and sprint when I was last there). They were a little busy and I had some old guy but in line on me after I was standing there waiting for 5 minutes, but once I was able to talk to a sales person he was very nice and helpful. I came away from Hobby Proz with a very good experience....

BUT before I went into Hobby Proz I stopped by Big Boys because they had one in stock...

What I did not expect was the treatment I recieved while there. I found the micro and was a little disappointed that they had it priced $20 ABOVE MSRP ($169.99). Okay....a little profiteering going on here which I don't agree with but maybe I could come back to get parts here after I get it somewhere else. After informing the sales person that they were $20 over what everyone else was selling it for his reply was "who's everyone else?" He said it a little rude but I ignored it and preceeded to tell him the couple online stores I was considering and Habby Proz was also selling at MSRP. His reply was "Well we keep hearing that but do they have them in stock?" I admitted not and that I'll just wait and pay MSRP. As I was turning to leave I told him I was sorry we couldn't make a deal. His reply was "It doesn't bother me." WTF!?!?! If you don't care if you ever make any sales then I don't either. You will NEVER see me in your store again and if anyone ever asks me about the truck I will gladly tell them where NOT to buy one.

So thanks for the Hobby Proz recommendation...I should have just went there first.

I would reccomend the mini over the micro doesn't take up alot of room but can be made very capable to couch crawl and rock crawl.

I may do that...bigger then I was looking for but I may be able to get away with it. Anything else in that scale that I should be considering?

I haven't driven either the Mini or the Micro, but I've seen them both run. I would recommend the Mini if space is still the issue. I would still seriously consider going with a larger rig, though. Can't beat the bang for your buck with the Venom. Only worry I have is parts support but they seem like pretty stout rigs.

Sorry to hear Big Boys Toys has been treating people that way. They've always been at least helpful or friendly when I've gone in, even if they didn't have what I needed. I just realized pretty quickly that they didn't carry much of what I needed most of the time, but that's been pretty typical for almost every shop in ABQ in the past. I know Hobby Proz is interested in trying to stock what we need these days so that's a good sign...."thumbsup"

Hey this is Jorge from el paso if you guys need anything let me know, buy local when ever you can but I can ship to you guys and my prices are pretty reasonable and I stock many items. I am the smallest hobby shop in town but try to cater to everyone and every scale.
