What's Powering your Bomber

"CHEAT MODE, Castle's High Energy Advanced Timing allows users to electronically advance their sensored motor's timing to extreme settings.

This can often yield just that extra bit of power needed to win the race. Be careful – there’s never a free lunch, extra power comes with extra motor heat!"

(from a Mamba Max Pro article that can no longer be found - I'll keep looking)

I see NO mention of CHEAT Mode for the Mamba Monster X, however - only the Mamba Max Pro...

Cheat caused the cogging for me so I would try changing the sensor wire next

I tried two different sensor wires.

I didn't see the option on the MMX.

Again, Castle said settings are not the issue. I was told this ESC should run Tekin motors smoothly at any settings.

UPDATE:
I just got off of the phone with Castle. They are shipping me a new MMX today and it should arrive in 2-3 days. I appreciate them shipping it right away and with fast shipping. My fingers are crossed that this new ESC solves everything because even Castle themselves told me they have found the MMX to be buttery smooth with Tekin motors.

I did have to give my credit card number as "collateral" in case I do not return the ESC. I wasn't pleased with that as I've never had a company request credit card information for an RMA before.

If your not planning to go past 20mph or hill climb 30 minutes straight you're probably fine, my stock geared wraith has never had issue. Just watch the heat till you know how your driving and terrain loads the system.

Funny you mention hill climbing for extended periods of time! I have a mmx and trying to figure out which puller pro to go with. I do a lot of crawling but we have a gravel pit with lots of fun steep climbs so which would you recommend as far as regular or xl, 2200 or 3500kv to keep me running cool? Should also add that I'm running a 2 speed. Thanks

My replacement MMX cogs as bad as the first. I've tried replacing everything - motor, transmitter, receiver, sensor cable, battery - and also disconnected the servo, etc. Nothing has changed. I'm lost and ready to give up on Castle.

Those running the MMX and Tekin ROC412 combo, are you having cogging issues? And do you have videos showing how smooth your rig crawls with this combo?

I got sick of trying to make my Tekin ROC412 work with my Castle MMX. Castle now tells me there is a firmware bug causing the cogging. Well I bought a Holmes Hobbies Puller Pro 3500kV to try since people are saying they've had great luck with the MMX/PP combo. I tried the Puller Pro with both MMX's, two different LiPos, different settings on the latest firmware, and even a Holmes sensor wire that gets rid of the Castle sensor harness and it still cogs just as bad as with the ROC412.

The Holmes motor also didn't cog on my 35A HobbyKing ESC, but the startup is so abrupt that I'm not sure I could have gotten it to cog if I wanted it. The ROC412 have a much better and smoother startup with this cheapo ESC.

I give up.

Got this guy in the mail today. Will get it soldered up asap to give her a go in my Bomber.

Looks awesome. I have been looking at them for a while but can't decide between the 2600 550 and the 3600 540. The other thing that is holding me back is needing 5mm pinions. I've got a full stable of 1/8 pinions.

I have a few 5mm pinions for my go fast trucks but they are higher tooth counts. I need to pick up an 11 and 12t pinion from the LHS today.

I'm running a steel spur so the rrp hardened pinions are like $12 per.

Pulled the trigger on 2 of these. One for my bomber and the other for my class 3 rig.

I also ordered a 3500kv - kept my 2200kv that hasn't been installed yet in my unbuilt (sigh...) Bomber. Decided what the heck.

I'm using the SHV500 Holmes servo that runs off 3S direct, so I wasn't going to be able to jump my 2200kv to 4S anyway.

This way I can keep it geared down but still have some great punch when I want it.

Not sure if I'll keep the 2200kv for a future vehicle (like a 1.9 scaler) or sell it.

Late to the forum. Have a Mamba X with 4600kv sensored on a stock Bomber running 2S 70C 5300 mAh and will cram my 3s 50c 5000 mAh in it to see what happens. Need to go 2-speed trans.
