Racing off road most of my life, My last off-road race kit was a AE B3 (when it was released) to give a time frame. Fast forward 20 some odd years, my son got the speed bug and wanted to start racing, he is all in! I’ve had monster trucks and crawlers to fill my time so I was never out of the loop with the hobby.

As much as I just wanted to race by his side my old slash was not cutting it for me. Neglected maintenance, high COG, tired/old and cheap brushless system, etc, something had to happen. Thank goodness I am an adult and can manage money, the orders were sent in and a few trips to the LHS. Locally they run on indoor clay, and it is super clean and great shop. Mostly 2wd buggy, SC, and a handful of trucks that usually run with the SC. Mostly It’s split between AE and TL for buggy’s, AE has the hold down on SC and Slashes and modded to the max.

This time I got a Rc10sc6.4, mamba x and a 1410 3800kv, lightning fast protec servo, and a Mt-5 for the radio (waiting to be delivered). That itch was scratched but wish I had started sooner with the build for this Friday's race I don’t think I’ll have it finished yet. I have been wrenching at night and my free period at school. Fit and finished as expected; there is nothing like putting together a new kit no matter what kind it is.

Gotta love the helpers. I have 3 cats that think they own the work space and a dog that we call clepto boy because he sneaks stuff then hauls it off to chew it or rip it to death as quickly as possible. Looking forward to seeing this build come together, great that you and the boy get the time together not looking at a screen. 👍

Always have great helpers around. Did t take much picture it’s pretty standard but I’ll get up a few later of it completed. I’ve got two races under it being finished. Of course I literally finished it at the track minutes before the first qualifier. Quickly and poorly fitted an old body off a slash I had brought in case I didn’t finish it.

Finished 4th of 12 in the a-main that night. Second race I q4 for the a-main but finished 6th on the last lap I flipped in a corner and took a good while from the turn marshals, it was hidden. 3rd - 6th place was split by 12 sec. So close to the podium, but that’s how it goes some times.

I lost that competitive edge beating others but that internal bettering myself is strong. Consistent in laps is still there racing, but each race I’m quicker and quicker. I am having a blast so that’s a good thing.

My son has been driving since he was 2, he will be 9 in 2 months. Santa brought him a Bandit, he wanted a 2wd buggy and with our life time supply of stash parts that was a no brainer. He is the only kid in a group of 10 of late teens and older adults. First he finished 9th, second 8th in his a-mains. He is holding his own and having a blast of a time. I’m sure he will be all in for the next series also, so we will likely upgrade his ride too.

not looking at a screen. 👍
I’m a junior high teacher, I see what screen time does for my students and there is nothing good about it.
He is definitely not behind a screen, the Switch some times but he is an active/athletic person. Gave him the option this spring for a race season or soccer, baseball, basketball. Glad he chose racing! 🥳
