What the newest cheap servo hotness?

What's the average shipping time from that vendor, I wonder... It's not too bad from rcmart...

I've bought a number of things from them. Shipping time seems to be pretty consistent with other Chinese retailers... about 3 weeks for me on the East Coast. 1/2 of that time is the time it takes for it to cross the US by donkey.

I just tried that coupon code and it's only $1 cheaper since it doesn't overlap the sale. Part of me really wants to buy one, but I'm going to get 2 of the 32kg JX HV5932 and use them in my Clod for $3 more. The gearbest price is $22 with the discount, or $26 from Banggood if you want it shipped asap from a USA warehouse.

I have read through this entire thread and only found one obscure mention of the Savox 1230SG

The problem is it's slow and more expensive vs a similarly rated JX servo and a little less than a much faster Promodeler. That's about 35kg at 6v but 0.16sec is sloooooow. Now that I've run $25 0.10sec servos, I never want to go back.

You could buy almost 2 of those for the price of that Savox, or 3 for the price of a Promodeler & Castle UBEC [with USB Link].

Honestly, why does servo speed make any difference in a low speed scale crawler? In fact when I replaced my servo horn with a HR 25T aluminum one it came with two drag link holes. I use the inboard hole to slow down my steering as much as possible. Now if you are a basher like Kevin Talbot and beat the snot out of your truck while running 6s batteries then I could see a need for a fast servo but for slow scale crawling what's the big deal?

If all you're doing is going .000001mph on the rocks, the servo speed probably doesn't matter, but I drive my vehicles in a way that includes bursts of higher wheel speed for steep inclines or low traction situations, and in those cases I need to react quickly to what the truck is doing. Having a servo that you can time with a sun dial doesn't help with control under those conditions.

I used to think speed didn't matter and for 1mph it doesn't matter too much. Still if I have the choice between 32kg and 0.10s or 35kg and 0.16s, I'll take the faster servo. When you hit a rough trail spot and ppl stack up behind you, 50-100 milliseconds per turn starts to add up.

Confusion abounds! AsiaTees and RCMart are well-known to me, I should have clarified that I was wondering about the GearBest servo...

^^^ the 12v+ Ultra High Voltage servos would be handy for one of my rigs that is being built with a first-generation Holmes SHV500... I may not have the bent-pin issue occur for a while (or at all!), but the early SHV500's did occasionally have it happen. It would be nice to have a half-price backup servo for use if I needed it while I waited for the upgraded replacements that are now available from Holmes.

My other Bomber will be built using a CC BEC WP 2.0 set to 8.4v and my ProModeler 470oz-in. No worries there...

The jx6221 with the ubec set at 7v is working great!!! very quiet and powerful setup for $27 total. servo was $15 shipped and the ubec was $12 shipped. my buddy got the same ubec but a 20kg waterproof servo and his performs the same as my 6221 IMO. "thumbsup"

No modifications to the servo?

This one? JX CLS - 12V7346

It's 14V. [shrug]

I went ahead and ordered the brushless version, not the coreless version. From Gearbest... Used a coupon and it's gonna be roughly $50... Gonna be my backup for the HH shv500. Read up on it, brushless will outlast coreless, per aviation servo forums. Will be a while before it shows up...

What 7v UBEC are you using? The cheapest I've found for a 5A+ read-made UBEC is $16.

i went with the FVT 6a adjustable UBEC which appear to be sold out now. :)

i have a question. they say adjustable BEC. with only 2 options for the jumper and 3 different voltage settings. i havnt tested this but if the jumper is on 5 and 6 then what voltage output is that? vs if the jumper is on 6 and 7?

Usually with the jump OFF is lowest voltage. If the 3 pins are labeled 5/6/7, then 5/6 would probably be 6v and 6/7 would be 7v. You'd have to measure with a DMM as that link has no good details. My Henge has 4 pins, with the jumper off or on [blank]/5v it's 5 volts, on 5v/6v it's 6 volts, and 6v/7.4v it's 7.4 volts.

The jumper just bypasses or adds resistors to a SENSE line, so you can typically make them fully adjustable with a trimmer pot.

It's too bad the FVT is sold out atm. I think I'll try the 4/6A Henge next time and just mod it.

Care to share a link? And they are 4A continuous and 6A peak or greater & 7V or higher, correct? Wired & shrink-wrapped?

I can get 5A peak 2A continuous for $0.30 and even stack them for nearly double power, but they still need wires & shrink wrap & voltage adjustments.

Next candidate for testing: JX CLS5830HV

Motor: Coreless
Operating Speed 6.0V: 0.11 sec/60°
Operating Speed 8.4V: 0.09 sec/60°
Stall Torque 6.0V: 24.7 kg.cm (343 oz-in)
Stall Torque 8.4V: 30.3 kg.cm (420 oz-in)

Waterproof

Between $34-$38 various locations...

I picked one of these up, but haven't had the chance to stick it into a rig yet. If all goes well, I'll probably start getting these regularly.

mine was a a little glitchy running off the tekin fxr esc at 6v 3a. it would return center when overly stressed and then back to where it was. Needs a dedicated BEC for smoother operation.

either this one https://www.ebay.com/itm/USA-Stock-...092373?hash=item1a2d88d715:g:aI4AAOSw9OFZNnhh

or a cc BEC so you can program to the exact voltage output you want. right around 8v output, I wouldn't go the full 8.4v based on what hydrocarbon said.
