viper's creeper build

Those Robinson racing units are actually hollow,,,saw one snapped at both ends recently,,both ends snapped within minutes in the same run on a course...EPIC FAIL!
Are you sure that you werent looking at Axial hardened units? Those things are hollow and break like twigs.
This is the unit I was talking about. Judging by the weight and that Ive seen a build thread here where a member drilled his out for weight savings I dont think its hollow. http://www.rpphobby.com/product_p/rrp1542.htm
 
One of the guys I crawl with regularly had them in his Ax rig and was driving a course when the rear went and he tried to keep going with FWD only and the front went...the unit had an 1/8" hole through the middle of output center...like it was forged and had an air pocket...but the hole was symetrical and perfectly centered.
 
ive been thinking about getting a robison gear and was told it was solid...
Ive got the robinson gear/locker unit in my Axial and Ive always believed it to be a solid piece. Even if it isnt, its still way more stout than the stock ones I sheared off within 7 gates of starting the first comp of last season. I ran the rest of the year with the Robinson unit and no issues.
 
well build starts tomorrow most of the parts are here just waiting on the xvd's to get here , gotta make the adapters to fit the chassis plates to the trans skid plate ( making adapter plates out of 1/8" aluminum countersunk bolts to skid and then bolts to frame plates ) yes it will still be a wide chassis ( maybe enough to be bodyless ? )
 
okay so i finally had time to sit down and work on the new creeper , put the new skid on, made adapters to allow the use of the dinky r/c sportsman chassis , and changed the pistons in the shocks as well as taking out the spring spacers . gotta say this new setup has really good ground clearance but i have kept you all in suspense long enough here are the pics first ones are how the chassis came to me .

Lookin good Viper! There should be a few of the Dinky chassis floating around at this point. I've got a mini Dinky I built for my oldest daughter that is really working nicely. For my creeper I am really still diggin the cage, even with its raised CG and all I still like it. I'm anxious to see how that chassis works. If its anything like my mini, you will be pleased.
 
ya one thing that i noticeds was that my tie rod rodend, the balls are very loose and the tierod will have a litle bite of slop in it.
 
it might be a lil sloppy but its only a rock crawler. unless the ball is falling out youll barely notice any performance loss. maybe if you had a loose ball end on a camber tie-rod link of a racing truggy or buggy were it would actually effect take off and landing there is no need to concern yourself. speaking from expertise in off road racing.
 
ya i was just putting that in im starting to get in to racing at my local track to but i dont know if they allow nitros :roll: but who cares
 
When i was talking about the movement of the ball in the end i was refering to the ball being hard to turn not easy mine were both incredibly stiff and difficult to turn which in turn transfers to more resistance for the servo to fight against so i replaced my rod ends with different ones and made a new centerlink . i'm not sure about your racing buggy or truggy but it can make a difference in a rock crawler if your rod end is binding it will restrict movement so flex can be limited or the steering can be affected from the added resistance .
