Rock Crawler
Yeah baby!!! Dually setup is officially done and in the house... Hosted a couple of pics below.
Just maybe one of the first of very few out there (guessing here, I could be wrong of course) --- CEN F450 with DUALLY and proper Portals, Remote Lockers, and 2-speed. Not a build you see every day hopefully, kinda off the wall.
Either way i'm pretty psyched about it as it was actually easy and went pretty smooth. I had expected I would need to build shaft extensions, drill out for 2mm pins to link it altogether, etc to fit 2 wheel/tire sets on the back.
But this was upsetting me because it looked like a lot of effort, and the offset and stick-out of both tires wheels was going to look ABSURD sticking out WAAYYY too far to have any chance of sort of still looking "DUALLY" but heavily set for off-road hauling. Its pretty outragous width as it is right now.
I settled on 2 tires on one wheel, or sure was gonna try it first. Ended up slicing out the center bead of each tire and then using M3x30mm long carbon steel bolts to hold the wheel together with extra width just enough to keep the tires from folding improperly --- they are skinnied quite a bit but I have always LOVED the look of a tire bulging absurdly past its wheel with the concave effect.
The beadlock is essentially gone where the tires meet in the middle, and I CA'd the tires on the outer, they aren't going anywhere lol, neither are a few of my fingers that are stuck together, just love the CA and rubber!
I could have kept the beadlock and stock bolts and tightened it all down ALL the way back together but I think it was causing DUMB looking bulge in both tires was over the top skinny, and this was as thin as I wanted to make it all and still look kinda decent to my eyes; so CA it was! The setup is permanent ie there was no going back on these tires once the scissors came out so I may as well permanently attached them to the wheels.
If they made 2.2 Fling Kings in Green compound like the newer version 1.9's I def would have gone that route --- LOVE FLING KINGS!!! But this was the closest look I could come up with to FlingKing / Tractor tire style --- I love the tractor tire look even though its not much for rock crawling (until FlingKing Greens showed up in the 1.9 and 1.0!!). The 2.2 Fling Kings are wide and could probably have taken the place of 2 tires in the rear -- just one big fatty, but that's not a DUALLY, and they don't come in Green super sticky compound, and what would then go up front to match? a giant wide 2.2 Fling King sure --- but that's not the Dually we're going for right now. Stay tuned though, could see a 4th setup on 2.2 wide Fling Kings all the way around for a MUD VID someday.
I will do a video run tommorrow for the tube on this setup but I don't expect any good snow performance from it --- these tires do not have much in the way of lug depth down the center sections - so they'll just stick snow and smooth out and get stuck up front if i'm reading them right. Clearance on the inside of the inside dually tire is tight to the stabilizer bars -- but it does clear w/out rubbing -- about 1.5-2mm. Not sure I care for those stabilizer bars anwyas might have to get hacked out soon.
They are decent sticky tire compound for generic cheapies so it should Rock Crawl and off-road pretty solid, for a Dually that is lol!
Why do all this? yeah I get it, I don't know either, I guess just cuz I can't buy a DUALLY shell and not have a version of it that is almost proper Dually looking.
So its set to be a versatile rig with three complete 2.2 tire/wheel configurations always ready to go --- >
1. LEGIT ALL TERRAIN DUALLY - tractor tire look on "pretty boy" wheels
2. MAX MUD & SNOW - Snow Chains, stock EMO X4 deep lug tires on lightweight stock plastic beadlocks
3. EXTREME ROCK CRAWLING - rc4wd Rock Crusher tires on heavy steel wheels wide stanced
Here's DUALLY PICS!!! --- think I need to adjust the foam in the inner passenger tire -- I have full foams in each tire but split them down the middle when experimenting with more/less foam initially. Prolly going to open back up and glue the halves back together so they can't overlap inside the tire on each other as the tires gets squished around on terrain.
