Vanquish VS4-10 Origin Limited Build/Thoughts Issues

Watched Josh build it, gear to spool, slide bearings onto, follow with retainers, drop in. Could caps be reversed side to side ?

That was my thought as well, caps looked odd to me in the photo.

I'm not sure if you mean swapping the two retainers, or that they are flipped backwards.

I've tried swapping them, no difference. The bearing cannot be inserted at all if the retainer is flipped the wrong way.

Keep in mind, the assembly that works in the rear housing, cannot be installed in the front housing.

If that's true it's simply inexcusable. All that pretty aluminum will look like shit when mixed with rust.

It's nice. I've build 50ish kits from all different manufacturers over the last 30 years. This one is *really* nice. That said, I also had high expectations, and maybe that set me up to be a little overly critical. Keep that in mind for what follows below.

You bought a $900 kit which is basically an upgraded SCX10. It's impossible to be overly critical. It should be perfect at that price.

The early bird gets the worm except with new products. Then the early bird gets more problems.

Well I’m not happy with painted, but it rusts almost as fast as black oxide.

I’m not sure if perfection will be possible in anything for consumers.
That said this kit seem to hit all the low spots that the stock kits are full of.
I’m not a VP hugger, but do expect top shelf. The review and content from Matt at SBG swayed me the cheapskate to belly up. I’m curious of overall, but not having an SCX to compare with it will be a challenge.
Body and interior seem well thought out.

Don’t forget if Harley likes it it must be good............

Perfection is a myth. nothing is perfect.

When I said perfect I meant without issues. Yes, you can make products without issues.

There are better coatings than paint to prevent galvanic corrosion.
 
Gotta love how all these small businesses are starting to use CUSTOMERS as there first level beta testers instead of actually having quality control in house. Its super annoying getting pieces that dont fit when they should be doing a dry fit on everything before even shipping it out.

I might point out that the screws into the axle are SS.
I’m speaking about the other fasteners.

In my experience only the bit holes on black oxide rust, and thats because of the torque used when installing them. Paint will chip quite easily off all parts of a screw.
 
I have a number of black oxide with rust all over. Yup started at the hex, crept all around, I live and run in 90% humidity , regular treatments of corrosion liquids keep it happy. I tried SS everywhere, but those soft hex heads are worse

Black oxide isn't a great corrosion prohibitor. It's a very thin layer of oxidation hence the name. Zinc coating would have been a better option. That can be done in black.

I've never had issues stripping the heads of quality stainless steel hardware. Lower end stuff have sloppy heads that quickly strip.

Ive managed to strip any and every hex ever just as long as im wrenching on it like a 250lb gorilla.

Which in itself may not be an issue. Anodization is intended to be a barrier against oxidization. It also serves as a barrier against galvanic reactions.


The question becomes are they tapped before or after being anodized, if before is the hole clean enough that the screw doesn't remove the anodized layer.


I would expect it is, otherwise we would have a lot of complaints about frozen screws. But you know that's not a bad question to ask.
