Ultimate Adventuring Bronco

Living up to its name. Scenery looks great.

The Scenery was great, the Rocks in AZ had grip for days, the sand in Utah was amazing and the Family in Idaho was the best part.

My Nephew is hooked on his Traxxas Slash and we raced. The Kid has great control (11) and was literally running circles around me . My Bro in law ran my truck around for 30+ minutes, my mom ran for 15 or so, and my Dad did as well. My Niece and 3yr old nephew each got turns well before the 10,000 mah was even close to running low. overall I had a great time on the trip and ended up driving over 3k miles in 9 days in the 1:1 with the doggo's in back, my wifey shotgun.

UPDATE!

Working on lighting, and getting my on board battery low voltage monitor/alarm in.

Carnage report!

While the rig preformed better than any previous rig I have built I had issues on the trail. I really was not easy on the rig.

#1) My 8 year old HH Brxl has started "surging" at low throttle settings and low load conditions, causing the truck to lurch and buck when running down the trail esp. downhill and on flat terrain.

#2) I am not geared anywhere near low enough for climbing like I did yesterday. Near the top of the mountain, I could smell the hot motor.

#3) I really need some harder body panels.... Examples below....

Solutions to carnage!

Regreased my Mip's, Rebuilt, meaning, I pulled it apart, re shimmed, and re greased my Vanquish trans and threw in 87/12 gearing. Bolted her up to my Bronco. 7.25:1 spur/pinion compared to the 4.9:1 54/11 spur pinion. Will torture test her next weekend and see what happens.

Body work....

I glued some 1/16" aluminum to the back side of the front fenders with E6000. Hope this backing provides enough strength to keep from breaking her again.

I took my Nephew out for a short trail run today.... His first, he loved it! Burned through 5000mah each.

Carnage Report!

The ugly surging reemerged on this last trip, worse than ever. It is definetly electronic as I went through all the drivetrain before we went out and nothing was consistant, except when I let off the throttle, the truck lurched forward. I will be pulling the Brxl, and replacing it with a Mamba X and a 2200kv Puller Pro or Roc412.

When on the trail, I heard a Pop as I turned on the rocks, and found an incredible amount of toe out, aka my steering link popped loose. Easy trail fix, I replaced the link with a new 3mm rod end and was good to go again.

My Nephews JK broke a rear rod end on the way back to the truck, I only noticed because the rear axle was not lined up with the fender anymore. Actually broke a traxxas 3mm link in half, fortunately I had a second spare in the parts box, and we reinstalled it in a matter of minutes. Overall we had a good time and we are looking forward to hit the trail again.

I managed to shoehorn my Rc4wd 2spd under the body, and arange the driveshafts to work. My 11t pinion is in my nephews rig at the moment, so I will be picking up another. I also picked up a SW4, to she how she works on my 3000kv 4 pole motor. A revolver will probably be coming up soon though, in the 1800 kv flavor. Progress will come soon.

Got her out today,

and about a mile up the trail a wierd clicking began under load...

Turns out, the motor screws backed out allowing the motor to shift and pinion to loose contact with the spur...

I pulled the axial 27t motor and noticed the bushing was completely shot, about an 1/8" of play up front! So I bit the bullet and ordered the HH Revolver V2 in 1800kv flavor. I need to get a ec3 on my SW4 and the rig will get a test run.

I Also threw my Brxl in my Rbk and no surging, But my old reliable Honcho with a specky rx suddenly started. So I suspect it is the Dx5 rugged, I need to look into the radio instructions to see if I can increase the deadband on the trigger.

Thanks OSRC, My dream is being filled, now I just have to pay for it! I love, btw watching your projects come together...

I bit the bullet, in other news, picked up a gen2 Revolver in the 1800kv flavor and dropped her into the Bronco, I have to pick up a ec3 connector, and then she will be ready for a test run... I am debating on throwing a Castle gen2 bec in her too.

So I got everything mounted, and then installed a rear sway bar. I lowered the suspension a 1/4" or so by moving the lower shock down to the link mount area. I removed the hard panel roof removing a full ounce from the roof.

Went to go for a trail run this morning, and my Solar D772 finally died after several years of hard use...

Out with the old, in with the new!
