What experiences have you guys had with different materials?
I've seen the videos RC Car Action have on Youtube and they use brass (I'm guessing 3/16")?
I've also seen people using steel brakeline.

What do you recommend?

I'm about to build my first tuber and want to get things right the first time :)

P.S. Links to usefull E-bay items will be much appriciated!!

I personally prefer solid steel rod but brakeline would be second. Brass probably wont hold up to much abuse before it starts to show damage.

If I was you I would just go down to the hardware store and buy some low carbon 3/16" rod. I get a 3' long piece for like $2, it takes a bunch to make a chassis depending on the design.

If you are planning on brazing I would probably advise at least a small oxy acetalene setup, it will be a biotch on Mapp gas. If you want to braze with Mapp either get some brake line from an auto parts store or order some tubing from McMaster.

I use 3/16" steel brake line. It's cheep and very easy to find (any auto part store has it) and you can buy 2', 4', 6', whatever you need. I use brass and solid steel rod for smaller or bigger pieces, but the hollow brakeline is lighter than solid rod, and by the time you're done the weight starts to add up.

If you use brakeline remember that it is galvanized to inhibit rust. Anytime you braze you want to grind or sand/file down to clean bare metal, so keep in mind that the galvanized coating is toxic! Wear a mask/handkerchief or have good ventilation so you don't inhale the galv dust.
