Trump's BA Axial Jeep G6 build with a twist.

I made a battery holder for my Jeep Rubicon kit. I figure I might as well make another one for my Jeep G6.

I was working on my Jeep Rubicon, powder coating the wheels when the attractive mail carrier approached me with a pair of packages. I knew when I saw her I was getting my screw kit and other goodies.

Parts had been trickling in until Saturday. Then a gusher hit. A plethora of RC goods arrived. Here's the cornucopia of RC goodies.

I don't exactly know the cost.

I just check and it's slightly over 2.3K. I think I have just about everything I need except a light controller, and some materials for my bumpers and spare tire carrier. I already have paint in my paint inventory. The costs should be less than 2.4k.

A few parts trickled in before and after Christmas. Traxxas Rx box and Futaba power switch.

Alloy skid plate and lights.

I took a couple of days off last week and did manage to get a little work done on my G6 ride. I'll post up soon.

Spare tire mount:

I have been wondering how to mount a spare tire ever since reading Badger's G6 build.

I wanted to run my Jeep G6 with a spare tire even though in a RECON G6 a spare tire is highly recommended, but not mandatory. Since the G6 didn't come with a spare tire I had to come up with my own method by modifying the cage.

Here's a couple of pictures of the cage before any modifications.

First I made a few cuts to remove the rear part of the cage:

I filed down the cuts:

I inverted the part of the cage that I removed and re-installed it. I filed down the ends so they will be flush against the plate I make to hold the spare tire. Top view:

Side view:

Looking at the bottom:

So now with the cage trimmed I figure I have three (3) options.

Option 1, spare tire on top of the cage (Man! this tire is huge!):

Option 2, spare tire below the cage.

The tire fits pretty snug. I can also use the part of the cage that I removed to further secure the tire. If I go with Option 2, I would trim the holder to look a little better.


Option 3, would be to run without a spare tire. Since mounting a spare tire would change my COG, I could run without a spare.

Anyways, these are the options I came up with for mounting a spare tire. I'm leaning towards Option 2.

My winches arrived yesterday. I was checking out the Warn 9.5cti winch online on Warn's web site for about two weeks nearly everyday. Thinking and planning. Wondering how I could fabricate a similar winch. I thought maybe I could contract with a machinist to build a batch. Then, while browsing RC4WD, I notice that RC4WD came out with a license Warn 9.5cti winch. The timing was perfect.

So I ordered two.

I mocked one up on the Jeep Unlimited Rubicon. I'm going to have to use a spacer because the BGR bumper is recessed. The spring on the hook works pretty good too.

I think I have about 90-95% of the parts I need for my G6 build. I just have to finish my Jeep Unlimited Rubicon build first.

Thank you. BGR bumpers are solid. I'm planning an unorthodox front bumper for my G6.

I am digging this approach. I keep looking a bumper mounted options, but this is interesting.

Thank you. I figured there's a finite number of paces where to mount the spare and mounting the the spare low and centrally would help with the COG. Plus, you never know if a spare tire might be mandatory in a G6. Got to be prepared.

Well, now that City Slicker is done, it's time to get going on my Jeep G6 build. No time to rest on my laurels. I want this rig ready for Axialfest 2014.

The first order of business was to get my indoor assembly area ready. I also had to fix my wife's hair curler.

Now that I took care of that hair curler business, it's time to start with the axle assembly. I honestly could not remember the steps so I had to refer to my City Slicker build to remember. Thank goodness I had the steps documented.

I got the rear axle completed with Locked Up RC FI spools installed.

Here's a picture of how the FI Spools look installed in my Jeep JK. See more photos and a step-by-step here.

I wasn't sure what to do with the diff cover. I was thinking of the following options:

Option No. 1. Do nothing.
Option No. 2. Powder coat it chrome.
Option No. 3. Powder coat it Candy Red.

For now I chose Option No. 1.

I started the front axle, but could not finish because I was missing the diff clamps. This is far as I got with the front assembly.

I spoke to Rob at VP and requested the missing parts. He picked up the call so no voice mail to deal with.
