I wanna be Dave
Man, what a fun little truck! Okay, it's not super fast and it doesn't crawl, period, but it's a 100% scale rig that does everything just like the real thing. body roll, wheelspin, wheel hop, you name it. In other words, it has many sins that need to be worked out, but they're the same sins that Ford had in 1981. And there's nothing at all like seeing your rig drive by itself for the first time.
It tops out around 10-12 mph, so it's not real speedy, but scale. The laydown tranny makes it very stable; the wheels stay planted. The TTB works well but it's noisy. You can see the wheels changing camber and toe as the truck drives just like the 1:1.
Best of all, I managed to bring it in just under $250, because I recycled the electronics and picked up the servo from a friend who races BRP and has no use for it. A Z590 is more than enough for this; I could have used a 3003.
So even though it's not the best performing thing out there (it would probably get spanked by a Nikko) I really enjoy it. It's unique and about as scale as anything you'll see this side of a plastic model.
Mission accomplished.
