I've just got an ax10 and have only run it a couple times. i'm have a problem with the car responding. The esc keeps beeping like it's looseing the sync. when it comes to an obsticle the throttle cuts out and jumps forward and when I release the trigger the car usually won't respond to any imputs from steering or throttle. I've searched and haven't come up with anyone that seemed to have my exact problem. I'm a newb at this so I hope someone can give me a step by step instruction on how to diagnois this. I've tried re syncing it and had problems with that as well.

what kind of battery are you using? It would be good to know your setup, esc, radio/receiver, battery type and capacity etc.

IThe esc is the stock ae-2 and the radio/receiver is the ax-2. The battery is a split pack 1500 ni-mh. Everything is the stock rtr. I haven't changed anything until I can resovle this handling issue.

if you have not callibrated your radio to your esc then do it. Many are not calibrated correctly out of the box.

The ae-2 has 2s or 3s printed on the side.
I have been reading about how to calibrate the esc to the controler and tried last night, but I wasn't successful.

I've played with calibrating the esc several times and I have the same result. It reacts the same it drive fine on the flat, but the esc blacks out when i'm on an obstacle. So from here I can only assume that the esc needs to be replaced.

Have you added an external BEC?

no I have not added an external BEC. Is it possible that I would be able to salvage my current ESC with this.
Did I cause this with my battery? Is the 1500mah split pack too large to run without an external BEC? I looked agian at the ESC and it says it's good up 6 cell Ni pack, but my pack has 8 batteries. Or can cells be wired in series?

rockheap,
I recently got a scorpion AX-1 that has similar issues with the AE-2. Make sure that your throttle control on your remote is completely at the center. I find that when I first start everything up it won't sync unless it's dead center. the vehicle tends to run just a little in revers after a while so I have to rotate the dial on the remote.

Then, sometimes, it will do that jerky behavior. I think it seems to happen the most if I start running with a battery that is not completely charged.

I ran tonight without any problems. I run a 6-cell 7.2v ni-mh battery. Concerning the calibration. I was once able to get into the calibration mode, but I had tweaked the dial on the remote several times to ensure that every time I started up the vehicle it would properly initialize.

Not sure if you found it or not, but there is a manual that describes the calibration and even programming steps in detail (what all the beeps mean). I tried to find it quickly but could not (yeah, it's not on my workstation...maybe one of my laptops). If you want I can search more for it. I did find that the AE-2 comes stock for a li-po battery, not for ni-mh and there is a small change that you can make to accommodate. The AE-2 is a Castle Creations ESC so you can also get their USB link system to program the thing.

I was looking into a BEC for the system last night.

here is a post that I found useful when I was troubleshooting:
