The Official Road Bike/Cycling Thread

I went back to OH this pat holiday weekend... took the bikes and my gf to meet the family.

They put in a very nice bike path that runs right past my dad's place.

We did 21 miles from Oregon, OH to Maumee Bay state park with almost no traffic and much of the path through woods.
Coming from Chicago, it was a beautiful ride... and the path was almost empty.
Stopped along Lake Erie for a pic.

The gf is getting ready for a 100k ride and I've been doing the shorter training rides with her... I'm ready to step up to 30 miles.

I also just picked up the form to rent a bike parking spot at work... gonna start riding in. It's 11 miles each way and we have a gym I can shower at once I arrive.

Well, I got back from my trip to Colorado.....and I had a BLAST! I rode a total of 140 miles....some easy....some REALLY TOUGH. I also visited 5 breweries around the area and had some amazing beers!

Here are a few pictures from the trip (there are a few from my first day in the previous post):

Day 2 - Mostly riding around Boulder and lots of drinking.

Day 3 - Estes through Boulder Canyon and back to Boulder

Day 4 - Up the Mount Evans Summit (highest paved road in North America)

Coming from basically sea level, to this peak was pretty damned challenging.

The tour's van at Echo Lake (about halfway up):

Having fun!

Mountain Goats chewing on the van's bike rack:

That's right! I rode up higher than Pikes Peak!

That was one of the most physically challenging things I have ever done....and I'm damned proud that I did it! :D

^^Kinda cool to know my old seatpost has been to all those places. Seriously though, that looks like a bucket list trip, I'm super jealous!

Have any of you guys used these laser "bike lane" lights before?
I hate riding in Chicago at night... this seems like a great idea to me.

There's a bunch of brands out there...

btw, my girlfriend rode her Metric Century (65 miles total) ride this past Sunday.
She made it... no real problems except that her shoulders got pretty sore during the ride.

I have not 'used' them, but I played with them at bike store...cool but they were fawking expensive at LBS. They are a great idea!

Cool, maybe she needs more core exercises to not rest so hard on her hands while riding. Can be difficult on long rides even so.

So instead of renting the bike parking spot at work... I quit.

I've been riding to work with my gf almost each morning (worked a couple).
It's 10 miles round trip and I get to watch the sunrise over Lake Michigan.
It's a nice way to start the day.

We did 25 miles today.
It was 35 degrees when we started, 45 when we finished.

And then, I hung the art... I mean bikes! "thumbsup"

A cool pic from the other day:

I recently replaced all cables and housings as well as added some King Kargo Kages. I am pretty happy with the way the bike is riding now.

I asked for money and gift certs to the LBS for Christmas, gonna pick up a trainer for winter. I have rollers, but I think the trainer would be better so I can mindlessly pedal while watching a movie or playing video games or something.

Hpi look into trainer road. It is a program that sinks up to most trainers and there are more than 1000 workouts on it. You can even build your own workouts, i do that a lot for the guys i train to work on their specific weaknesses. Sufferfest videos also sink up to trainer road for some entertainment and a real ass kicking.

For trainers i love my kickr and if you are going to get serious about training i think that is the one to have. But i have other guys that like their cyclops and their kurt kinetics.

:ror: Sorry about that. I think that was during your hiatus. My wife saw how much I loved that trip and I have the feeling that I will be back."thumbsup"

If you ever make it back, bring your cross bike and give me a yell. I'll take you on my commute from work which is just about all dirt, and we can hit 14 breweries along the way (bring your big bladder too). Last stop would be Grossen Bart...we can enter you in the Beard of the Month contest.

Thank for the tip rupps5, I really appreciate it. Looks like my Duotrap will work for trainer road according to forum posts I've read. Which means I can buy a cheaper trainer this year (likely cycleops as my LBS sells them) and see how much I use it. If I stick with it, next year I may or may not buy a nicer one. I'm going to have some wheels built up for my new 29er this winter too, the stock ones suck.

Glad to see y'all are still riding. I sold all of my bikes. ...and bought one ridiculously expensive one. ;) I'm loving it. She's tipping the scales at a whopping 16lbs. Not bad for a 58cm.

^^Nice Boone Brian! I don't know about you, but the Isospeed was a godsend for our rough roads around here.

Sorry for the distraction, I had to take a little ride tonight. ;-) Little espresso mid-ride...it was chilly.

@EePee, the lower and longer stem is just for you bud lol. :flipoff:
