The Official Road Bike/Cycling Thread

I never could gain any weight. even years ago when I wanted to gain a bit of weight and fill out my tall lanky frame. A couple years ago, I quit smoking and boom, 40lbs real quick like and have a hard time keeping it off. Funny how life works sometimes.

^^LOL

First group ride of 2015 yesterday. Happy to report that other than fighting off an infection ATM, I felt pretty good. Then again it was a slower nobody gets dropped ride, to help everyone start getting back in the groove and find their legs. I turned around a few times to go back and pick up stragglers, talk to them, tell them they were doing good, etc as others have done for me in the past. And for the record, we had one yesterday that's only done the Tuesday easy group that finished a much harder longer loop like a champ. Weather was a perfect 72 degrees, sunny and almost no wind, it was a perfect day to be on a bike in the mountains. We'll see how I do the first ride with the Wednesday group, that will tell the tale. The new seat seems really good so far, and the Sids are, well, Sidis. :D

I know you road guys have all experienced the angry drivers who think you need to get out of "their" road. Well, on my way home from work, I had a guy pull up behind me and start blasting his horn. I just motioned for him to go around...and as he did he flicked his cigarette at me and sped off.

I caught up to him at the next red light.

Open window + Jeremy's water bottle = 1 wet pissed off asshole

I've been lucky so far, haven't encountered any angry drivers yet.

I encounter the occasional angry driver. Most are just uneducated and think I am supposed to be on the sidewalk.....which is just as illegal for me as it is for them.

BTW, I've put a good number of miles on that seatpost.....and am liking it so far! "thumbsup"

I think you're right about the motorists actually. We have nowhere near the bike presence here in the US they do in other countries either, so that doesn't help. Glad to hear you're liking it, and it's working out for you bud.

Nice group, cool kits.
A-hole drivers... At least one per ride.
Got my first pair of "real" bike shoes this year myself. Wow, what a difference a stiff tight shoe can make.

So, I just discovered strava today and all the things you can do with it. I am by NO means an athlete(bahaha, even the thought makes me laugh) It's pretty damn cool that now I have some friendly "competition" of sorts around town. Going out tomorrow to see if I can't bump at least one guy out of 1st place in a segment :).

Haven't been on a bike since that last ride I posted due to injuries (non bike related). Did my first ride with the regular group yesterday, and got my ass kicked, hard. Man it's good to be back in the saddle though, I need lots of miles to get back to where I was.

I went for a 24 mile ride today on my mountain bike, but only rode paved greenway trails so I am posting it here. I haven't rode very much this year and just trying to get back into a routine. Just thought I would share it with everyone.

I've had a lot going on lately, and it's really gotten in the way of my cycling this season. But things are finally starting to get back to normal, so I got out for a nice solo ride yesterday. The quiet and solitude were really good, and I feel better today than I have in quite some time. I'm looking forward to tomorrow's group ride, and I'm still loving my new road bike. "thumbsup"

Rained out my Tuesday ride, so I rode with the Wednesday group tonight and got my ass kicked. It was good though, I pushed hard, even made some climbs in the big ring. Garmin wigged out, but it was just over 18 miles. Man it's so good to be back in the saddle again, I've missed it more than I thought. Also, made a small saddle adjustment before this ride, and I'm damn close to having true comfort on the road bike for the first time ever. "thumbsup"
