The Official Road Bike/Cycling Thread

So after my MTB adventure on Sunday, I had decided not to do a whole lot on Monday, But Monday morning, I made a good breakfast and decided an easy recovery ride would make me feel better. And I wanted to tinker with my saddle position a bit anyway due to a recent back problem. So, off we went for the greenway for some HRM zone riding, and a little exploring too.

Since I'm a slacker about posting up when I do rides, here's a shot from a recent road ride and a Strava upload of a ride from this past weekend! Taking a cue from hpiguy on posting the Strava...Strava or it didn't happen, right?

I've been doing triathlons lately, so I figured I'd upgrade my bars:

Got out for around 30 miles of sight seeing on the road bike today. Sights included gravel roads, plenty of farm land and uphills, a donkey, a llama, the New River, and quite a few scantily clad babes in bikinis. Sorry, no photos of said critters or babes.

saw a couple guys riding trail ridge road in rocky mountain nat park a few days ago. insane... both the physical and the balls to ride a road like that with nothing but rubbernecking tourists driving down narrow af roads.

most the times i chuckle at men wearing spandex and being all armstrong, but holy **** i got nothing but respect for dudes who ride shit like this.

^^We saw people riding the whole time we were in the Tetons, some of them obviously bike packing also. I can't imagine those climbs on a bike, much less a bike and 75lbs of gear.

Out of Estes? I've done that ride....pretty fun! Rode up Mt Evans the next day too! Both rides fueled by Beer and Oreos.:ror:

So, it might seem a little lame to you guys, but my family and I like to participate in natural waterway cleanups. I used to help clean the San Marcos river when I lived there as a child. Now, my wife, son and myself participate each year in a beach cleanup on some portion of the coast here in Texas that is put on by the Texas General Land Office. We generally just help with trash pickup and removal. (website if you are interested: Adopt A Beach)

This year, I have decided to also participate in the Bike Around The Bay. This is a 170 mile bike ride where each rider and/or team raises money to donate to the Galveston Bay foundation. Because of the currents in the Gulf of Mexico, trash from all areas of the GOM can end up along the Texas coast and can get costly and challenging to clean up. Hopefully this will help them raise the money they need to keep our beaches nice for everyone to enjoy.

If you feel like making a tax-deductible donation, then that's cool and much appreciated. If not, I understand that too.

Here is my donation page:
Bike Around the Bay 2016: Mr. Jeremy Hansen - Galveston Bay Foundation

Here is information regarding the Galveston Bay Foundation:

Thanks!

Not lame at all Jeremy, we gotta take care of our environment, we all live here! You don't know how many times I've crawled, hiked, mountain biked only to see others drop their cigarette butt on the ground or leave behind other trash, it's disgusting! Thank you for helping out! 8)

anybody have a jamis mtb converted to road?

I had converted one while in sk and rode at almost every bike party seoul event in 2013 and 2014. it was a single spd. not a fixie. had whit bull bars and white pedals.

awesome bike I had. it total was worth maybe 1200 but it had tons of good parts on it.. I miss bookin it down the hill by my barracks. id hit almost 40 mph.

So...I've converted. I loved my Trance, but I found myself driving on the road a lot more than on trails, and that bike isn't exactly the easiest thing to pound pavement with. The past couple times, even though I put in good mileage, I wasn't having fun at the end, so that's when I decided I needed something different. I went to Mike's Bike Shop yesterday to get the Trance a warranty tune-up, but instead of bringing it home, I brought this home instead:

I've been tossing around the idea of getting a gravel bike. I love my cross for commuting but something else for our backroads here would be nice.

Anyone else have one? Recommendations?
