This is a project I've had in mind for sometime now and I let myself get side tracked with other projects. I have had my eye on The Scale Shop chassis for a while now and thought it would be cool to build a 1.9 SCX based off that chassis as it has some cool upgrades over the stock SCX chassis. I'm going to use a SCX10 G6 kit as the base and build from there. This build will focus primarily on performance with SORRCA Class 2 and Recon G6's being the goal. There will be lots of Vanquish cause I'm a fanboy and a sucker for expensive shiny stuff.

This is also my first SCX based rig, I had an Ascender and sold it to focus on a 1.9 SCX type rig due to the large aftermarket support for them.

For those that might not be familar with this chassis or new to RCC, here's some info lifted off the The Scale Shop website:

SCX10 dimensions and all factory mount points precisely replicated

Uses your existing skid, braces, and hardware

Front and rear "arches" raised 1/2"

More suspension up travel and full compression at any ride height

More clearance for CMS and panhard rods

Eliminates axles and upper links hitting chassis rails

Integrated shock towers

Raised upper link mounts for optimal suspension geometry and anti-squat

Comes in raw 12g steel or 8g aluminum ready for paint or welding

I ordered the aluminum chassis and painted it black.

As I said, there will be Vanquish a plenty. I did some trading with a fellow RCC member for a set Curries. The object here is that...well they're just damn sexy. "thumbsup"

The first thing I did was to take the axles apart, clean everything and replace all the bearings with fresh Fast Eddy bearings. While there I also installed my lockers of choice, Locked Up FI Spools, and installed the HD gears that I usually use which are the 38/13 in front and 43/13 in the rear.

While waiting on parts I did start on the body. While I'm no fabricator, welder or any of those things I do seem to have a knack for paint and the little details that make a body look good. While I know most are over Jeeps, I've never built one other than the Pro-Line Jeep body on my Wraith.

Instead of my usual Candy Red I decided to branch out and go with Candy Orange for this build. First thing I did before the main color was to tape off everything but the fuel cell from the inside and paint it red.

And after some decals and small details minus the windshield at the moment.

Inside pics don't really show the Candy color but in the sunlight it's looks killer. "thumbsup"

Vanquish Ti links coupled with their CMS and Panhard kit equals slider. 8)
I spent way too many hours working on getting things such as the steering the way I liked it but it's getting there. The biggest issue I had was the drag link for the servo was way too short if I centered the servo horn...ended up curing that with a Jato rod end so I didn't have to adjust the rod ends out too far and risk an end coming off.

I've been wanting to try the RC4WD Compass tires and while they were third on my list of choices for this build I had the chance to by a new set from a friend in our local club and figured I'd give them a try. I've read nothing but good reviews about them and I've been impressed with the MTZs on the Defenders.

Decided to go a different route with foams, going to use the Lil' Novas with a soft outer up front and medium outer for the rear.

And some porn with the body mounted. Not 100% happy with the how the body sits but it's close.

The not yet released Ottsix KLR was number one on the list followed by the Pro-Line TSLs. I'm hoping the Compass tire works as good as it looks, I'll post up my thoughts on them.

I got quite a bit accomplished over the weekend with all the parts arriving.

Got the tranny built using a Vanquish aluminum housing, Axial HD gears, Super Shafty a Beefy Top Shaft, Robinson Racing Gen 3 slipper kit and Fast Eddy bearings. A little overkill for the motor I'm using currently but pretty much bulletproof and if I decide to throw a brushless system in at some point the tranny will be able to handle it.

Jeepers Creepers is about done, still waiting on the a ScalerFab front bumper and I have some small details to finish up such as a driver, etc. I plan on getting it out on the rocks tomorrow to see how it does.

On to the build updates...

Another item I had forgotten to mention that I picked up from The Scale Shop are the brass weights/brake drums that he makes. These are very nice pieces and actually weigh a decent amount, 2.25oz for the fronts and 1.35oz for the rears. Scale points plus functional is how I like things. "thumbsup" I'm not a fan of weighting the wheels and much prefer putting the weight if needed, somewhere else. I did have to grind the fronts to get them to fit the VP 8 Shooters, rears fit just fine.

I ordered a Howler Customs battery and electronics tray but didn't think about the geometry being different since I'm using a TSS chassis. Had to mod it but similar end result.

Also picked up a SSD narrow rear bumper, very well made.

It's been a while since I updated this thread so I thought I'd post a couple of updates.

After a few runs I decided I wasn't in love with my tire choice, the Compass tires work but not the best tire when things get slippery. I decided to go with the Pro-Line TSLs for now. I've tried the CI Deuces Wild and ended up going with the Lil' Novas.







I also ended up making a change in the motor department, I took the HH 13t Crawlmaster out after it expired and put a HH Puller Pro 3500kv brushless setup in. So far this motor has performed beyong my expectations, smooth startup and plenty of wheel speed when needed.

I also got to attend my first Recon G6 this past weekend down in Florida at the Killer Clowns of Krawlzone. Jeepers performed awesome and I also earned 1.9 Driver of the Day.
