Skaldiddog's "Progress"

Annual buff-out

It was time again for the annual front axle overhaul. Thrashed servo, knuckle bushings, knuckle bearings, teflon motor skid and less than optimal CVD pin slop. First off were the CVD pins. This time I was able to increase the pin OD from 0.0930" to 0.0935" on the short side and 0.0940" on the long. Nice press fit into both holes on each cup. The barrels tightened up a little bit too. The old pins showed the telltale narrowing on each end where the S300 wins the battle every time. CVDs now have less slop and more beef.

Knuckle bushings were way trashed. I installed my last set of "stock" VP spec bushings but they are still too loose. The top holes in the knuckles have expanded over the years. Next year I'll make custom bushings for each hole. Less slop and more beef yet again. Bearings were all feeling worn and new ones still press fit nicely. VP rocks!

Teflon skid gooped overnight under 5 cable ties so it's on. I'll button her up tonight and break everything in over the next two weeks. I went gay and fine sanded the mill "side" finish on the leading edge of my tie rod (not pictured). It looks all fancy now.

Looking forward to crawling with all y'all Yankee-Canadians and hoping the weather holds.

Re: Donged

Congrats on the top 5!

How many years in a row have you been able to do that? 4 now?
