Lately I've been putting down packs on my original set of reduced silver Voodoo tires. I do not reverse Voodoo tires when I run them. Photos please.

Thanks. As you can see, with unidirectional wear, the pins form flappy little ramps just before they shear completely off. I don't drive on ultra abrasive rock so these tires have continued to perform regardless of their state of wear. The set of silvers I drove at Nats looks brand new compared to these but these still work quite well. Their grip is remarkably smooth with very little hop (the pins fold over reducing hop). I'd actually comp these in this state. They lack that poppy snag of a Rover but their predictablility when traction is found is awesome. This silver compound rocks. I love the way it continues to soften up as is breaks in. I've not tried the blue compound yet but I'm a creature of habit and just haven't gone there. I'll drive the pins off of these to see where they hit the cliff. The inner hanger lugs are still like new...and work. Overall the silver compound still works long after I would have figured it would have dropped off completely. Are these as good as a similarly siped set of newer silvers with only 10 packs on them?... maybe not as far as forward bite goes (rock dependent however) but the overall predictability of handling may be better due to the softer, scuffed, pliable carcass and sidewalls.

I've been surprised as to how long these tires hang in there...Like you said, they do lose some of their forward bite, but the drive feel is as smooth as silk.
 
Crawler Crap Clean-Up

Last week I took the time to do some crawler crap clean-up. I had a bunch of lipos that I'd rather not have under my roof any longer. I tossed 9x 480 packs and 2x 6500 2S packs. All were puffy and way beyond optimum performance. This is my current stable with the top row of small ones that got tossed. It was kind of unnerving to see all of this fire potential in one place.



Then I found the list of all of the lipos I've ever owned...I'm on #55 with my latest Wraith packs not on the list yet. I have a problem.



I dug through and cleaned up a bunch of old stocker berg tranny guts (S300 and RCBro goodies on the right). Stock stuff is stored long term now not to be used any time soon.



And I assembled a backup set of RCBro final gears. Oh so nice! Great stuff Will"thumbsup".

It's amazing how many lipo batteries we collect over the years... I have a few to toss out myself..
You need to mail me those old worn out heavy berg gears..:wink:
 
Tacky Ass

I got so sick of my old ghetto arse shop stool cushion that I asked my lovely wife to chef me up a new one. I asked her to make it ugly. Luckily we had some ugly fabric laying around. Comfy, tacky ass now.





I made the feet from 6061 so the legs wouldn't cut up my rubber mats. These stools are welded SS and cool because they are designed to fit in an autoclave. I got them from an now-shuttered vaccinia virus production lab.

To all of the Big Bore Haters out there...

You know who you are. Hatin' on the Big Bores, day in and day out.

I don't blame you. Yes they never leak (I just took mine apart last night for the first time in a year :shock:)...




...but the shafts bind up after sitting a short time and pop loose when the shafts start to move. Compare a dry one to a dry Kyosho velvet and there is no comparison...until now. On this exploded view notice the o-rings...that's right, Kyosho o-rings (the orange ones). The black ones are external limiters.



The difference (dry) is night and day in a BB with stock vs Kyosho o-rings. A Kyosho velvet shock vs a KOBB dry is still more smooth if I recall correctly. The Ti coating on the BB shaft may be doing something weird with the KO-ring. I'll try Kyosho shafts in a KOBB next. So I built a set of four KOBB, filled them and let them sit with the caps off all night and no leaking. Kyosho shafts are the same OD as traxxas so they seal nicely. The KO-rings press nicely into the shocks with little effort so the seal is there too. I'm looking forward to trying them on my rig. I honestly think I'll need to increase the oil weight due to the dramatic decrease in shock cycle resistance. Time will tell.

For some time my shocks have had minor spring resistance on the lower neck of the shock body. Erik may have mentioned this earlier. I turned the necks down by 0.020" diameter and the springs no longer rub.



I'm also making new pre-load caps that will not snap and crack as the springs move on them.

With a little effort I think a BB can be morphed into the perfect shock for big fat rigs.

Do you have part numbers by chance?

FYI, if you ever need to, when I turn down BB's I go further up the shock for even less pre load and more weight loss. If you take a look in the shock there is quite a bit of meat in there for a little way up.

The difference is night and day. My shocks have never been this smooth. Absolutely awesome. I'll post the part number tomorrow. You can probably Google it and find it.
I don't want to lathe my shocks any further. My thinnest pre load spacers put no load on the springs at full extension. I have 0.1" on the front and .2" on the rear now. I feels great. I like a little more stiff rear to force front articulation before chassis twist at the rear.
 
Battery bank looks nice!!! Is it just for storage, or do you leave them in there while charging? Is it mainly a flame suppressor if one should spontaneously catch fire? I'm assuming you made a longer balance plug to reach. I use a parallel board, my only compliant is the batteries have to be close to it, and I can't keep them in my ammo box during charging... well, I guess I could, I just haven't made it happen yet.

It's just for storage. It'll likely keep one from igniting another. Regardless, the bench won't catch fire even if all my packs blaze in domino format.
