A buddy of mine had some of your wares for retail sale at a local event last Sunday. I gotta say, your parts look great! "thumbsup" What method of plating did you use on the spools? The black finish looked amazing.

Thanks bigski! It's just black oxide, but I found a company in the state that runs a really good continuous tank.
 
Today was making tooling for my tools with said tools. Next few jobs have tough materials and boring work, so we needed to step up our cooling game. Made some m6 and m10 threaded bungs with a lip to braze in .25" copper tube. Gotta route that coolant close or through the tools, and the 6mm line and fittings is hard to find. So now everything is .25" compatible.

First two bungs didn't make it. Got better from there.

Material is 303 stainless. Using my braze alloy and Flux it attaches easy to the copper.

This is part of why we needed more coolant flow. Some tractor pulling wheels for ma buddy. 6060 something off eBay on the right vs quality 2011 - t3 on the left. I had him spring for the slightly more expensive material because it cuts so nice and doesn't jam up the machine with strings of material.
 
2011 T3 looks like it machines a lot nicer, no where near as many chatter marks like on the 6061.

6060something, eBay crap posing as 6061. Quality 6061 would have cut better than the no name stuff, but the 2011 allows for really aggressive rates. .08 doc, 5000sfm, 0.012" per Rev feed, and not a bit of noise.
 
tools made from other tools to help the starting tools are the coolest kind of tools.

Say that 5 times fast.

Moar weels for RH designs. 100 dimples in the Super Farm wheel took as long as making the rest of it!

Indeed it is. I've got the spindle limited to 3300rpm right now, and it tops out around 3500sfpm towards the OD. The 3/8" boring insert tops out at 6500sfm , 0.18" doc, and .012 feed/Rev. Anything above 1000sfm at these depths is only acceptable with a solid carbide boring bar.
 
Don't know, not my wheels to sell. The crowd that will run them isnt afraid of a little polishing though. The wheels I'm making for myself will be 7075.


When you have a machine that can make stuff, people want stuff made. Locals pestered me into making stainless replacement parts for a popular vapor pen, the yocan w3. Im told the glass sleeve breaks easy. I took it on myself to make it look good at the same time. Machine was tooled up right and I just had to make a program, one of the easiest parts ive made from start to finish.

New brazing glasses. Good for soft glass blowing too. Silver is down, time to double up on drawn metals! I'll have enough for 10 lifetimes! Which won't be much after seeing how old I look in these goggles.
