Shane's GMade R1 Rock Buggy Build

did the r7 goodies help with the axle swing?

The axle swing you might have saw this past weekend was from the upper links coming loose on the chassis. I have since added thread locker and nuts to those connection points. Oh and the top shock mounting points. I just used little cone washers on one side to reduce the slop. no axle swing now at all.

this rig is awesome!!!! i want one soo bad!!! this is the one that made me want one of these!!!"thumbsup"
great job

Thanks boss! Started fabbing up a rear box to put the ESC in (got the idea from Ripper7777777).

excellent!

you want those msd rings??
they do fit those gt 2.2 wheels.

Sure thing. I looked at your text earlier and then got busy at work. I'll grab them in Hot Springs next weekend. Thanks.

Also, cutting some more lugs out of the rock crushers

Started on a rear electronics box. Nothing fancy.

Also got a wild hair to cut the rears some more. Took every other row out. Yes? No? Maybe?
Reminds me of the FatGirl's orginal cut up boggers. Shiny spots on the rears are some thin spots I put some rubberized CA on to sure them up.

That's what I did to my Flat Irons! They still crawl well, but they will suck in the mud if you don't have decent wheelspeed. :ror:

http://i460.photobucket.com/albums/qq321/helheddedcrawler/Picture233Large.jpg?t=1274990502

Those look as ugly as mine :flipoff:

I will do the fronts when my thumb recovers from the wicked blister I got from using metal snips on rubber tires. No pain no gain.

I have since wired up a Sidewinder with the 35T motor and 12t pinion. The 14, 16,18t pinions should be in today. I will be looking for another motor option this weekend. Either a little brushless or a 19-21t brushed.
I still need to finish up the electronics box and clean up the rat's nest wiring I currently have.

hell see if the trax titan 12t will fit??
that'll move ya!

Probably won't fit. Most of the bigger endbell 540's will not fit without some cage grinding/cutting/melting. The chassis starts to dovenose in right where the end of the endbell sits, then you run into clearance issues with the bolts for the upper links (stock).

I put a 17t pinion on the 35T for now. Nice step up from the 12t. A 20t pinion didn't seem like it would fit, no room for motor adjustment. I bet a 19t on a 540 motor is the biggest it will hold. Just guessing though. I didn't spend much time with the 20t but it seemed a no go.

I'll get some driving time tomorrow at the NWARC comp. I'll probably pick up a 21 or 19T brushed motor tomorrow after the comp, unless i can find a 2500-3500kv brushless that will fit. Might have to try a 380 sized prop motor, like elbo's.

And I cut up the front tires to match the rears.

i tried a 19t in my rock racer,it was fine until you had to go slow...
just didnt have the torque.

i got a hh revolver i might let go of??

SOme pictures

Ran the R1 on 35T and 17t pinion on Saturday. At a rip rap comp spot, so bashing was limited.

Drag brake on Sidewinder was only at 100% for bashing. It crawled good but I had to feather the throttle to get over some rocks due to the pinion size.

Took off the Aetna Mountain cuts for some rovers. The 1lb each fronts and 5oz rears (Total each tire wheel setup) made the R1 climb well. The berg offset wheels seemed to be a good width for crawling too.
Eritex berg offset with rovers.
10 5/8" or just over 10.5" wide outside of the tires.

I think it could run some comps with the sidewinder setup different and swap out the 17t pinion. Although it's more fun jumping this truck. Sixth picture down is some plastic servo horn carnage.

Video coming tomorrow.

Great Pics Shane!
How is the torque twist on yours?
What are those rims your using on your crawler set up?
Be nice to see a vid, just to compare.

Torque twist is there but not too bad. I put the driver side top rear link on top of the 4-link plate to try and help.

Those are Eritex's berg offset drilled out by JeepInDoug with .50 cal's filled with lead in the fronts.

Awesome! Great looking with them bergs! You think you could scale it out more?? Like a scaler basher? Great pics bro!

What you talking about adding to it, to make it more scale?
I think it looks decently scale, with the Aetna Mountain cuts on it. :ror:

rc4wd spooky crawlers."thumbsup"
i got a set ill let ya try on at the comp."thumbsup"

Sweet.

On another note, I spent 2 hours editing a 6 minute video of this thing at a skate park, comp crawl and some general running and had an error when saving the video. I will redo it tonight.
I beat the crap out of this thing and no issues. My wife even bashed on it for a bit. I was sure she was going to break something but no.

And I figured out my MaxAmps 2200mah 11.1v lipo just fits up on the front battery plate!

I ordered this last night. And a HolmesHobbies adapter plate.
