scale 1.9 tire for Sandstone

I have searched both google and here on RCCrawler. I have not found a lot of info other than for MOA and comp style rigs.

Looking to put new rubber on my SCX10 II. Heavier than stock with knuckle weights all around, (future) Incision KMC Grenade 1.9 wheels and SS lower links etc. Running the stock XJ body.

While I will encounter a wide variety of terrain living in Northern Utah. It is the sandstone in Southern Utah that I am most concerned with. I have Flat Iron XL's with CI Double Deuces on my Bomber and really like them.

For my SCX10 II, I am considering:
1) - Axial BFG ko2 in R35 compound. I have the RTR (S-30) version and they just don't hook up on sandstone. Not sure if that is more the compound and foam or the tread pattern.
2) - Pro-line Flat Iron XL's.
3) - Pitbull Rock Beast XL's

I have already removed several other tires from my list. I like these three because they look scale (2 are actual licenced scaled products). Does anyone have experience with any or several of these tires relating to sandstone?

It is apparent that the FI XL's and RB XL's are similar. It would be nice to know how the R35 ko2's compare to one of these other big lug tires on sandstone.

Picture of said terrain:

You already have them in R35 compound...

I have the RTR version which is the S-30 compound.

The R35 comes on the kit versions and is available aftermarket.
On page 21 of the manual you have, it says tires are AX31412. That's the only ko2s axial produce, and they are R35. How many zillion times will this issue come up on this forum? It drives me mad. Axial scx10 rtrs have come with R35 since I was born, almost..

Online description says rtr- s30. Maybe Axial is shipping them with 35's but I can fully understand the OP's confusion of this.

That is weird. Manual and axial parts list say R35. If you do a "s30" search on their site, they do not exist.

I bought my R35s aftermarket, and they don't hook up on anything, if that's a comfort :/

Yes, I agree it's confusing now when I see it. I think it's a mistake, though. I think it's all R35. Somebody ought to ask axial.. I'm too lazy [emoji12]

The non-condescending answer would be: You are correct about the R35 fire kit version only. .... go with 1.9 swamper xl or Rock Beasts for southern utah.

Been running both tires in St George and Three Peaks in Cedar for years and you really can't beat either tire for traction on our sandstone"thumbsup"

Haha, I had no idea this was such a cause for distress.

I would or wouldn't know what Axial offers other than getting (what should be correct) information straight from the source. I must have somehow missed the other "zillion" times it came up ;-)

Nonetheless, I stand corrected. Thank you for setting me straight.

In any case. If I truly have Ko2's in R35, they suck compared to my Flat Irons. So, I'll eliminate them.

I have since recieved an offer to buy some PitBull Growlers. Anyone have specific info for Growlers on sandstone?

Edit to add: Since there exists no "sarcasm" font that I am aware of ...my above comments are meant to be lighthearted and sarcastic - not snarky. I do appreciate the input.

Sorry for sounding bitchy at first.. I also don't mean anything by it.. It's just forum speak, the way I see it. And it's my mistake I didn't see the s30 information in the general product description! It certainly is confusing that Axial gives mixed information about their tires. I'll write them and ask soon, because the topic has come up many times (and it's annoying.. I'm only annoyed at their communication skills, not at anybody else ;) ) I own 3 sets of axial aftermarket tires and 3 sets of rtr tires. At least there is no difference in rubber compound that I can notice.

One guy recommended the tsl sx xl super swampers here, and I agree with him. I love the Pitbull growlers for the looks and performance on dry rocks, but proline tsl xl are great in all conditions, plus they are tall. So that is the tire I personally would recommend with no reservations :)

That being said, I suspect the Proline Hyrax is a winner too, and that at a nice price. even though I have never tried it myself..

I have the treps and Ripsaws and both are absolutely appalling compared to the madbeasts and rockbeast that I replaced them with.

I kind of get that you don't want to sell grippy tires, as they would accelerate the breakage of stock plastic, but they are really bad. I feel for people who do not realize how much of an upgrade some aftermarket tires can be.

I picked up a set of the duratrax 1.9 showdowns on there black chrome wheels absolutely love them on sandstone, not really scale looking but they hook up an clean out great!, an cheap on towers site

The new Rock Beast XL are an amazing tire on pure stone and the new Hyrax are a great all-around trail tire. I will admit, there is no sandstone up here but, if they can hook up on granite, then they should grip sandstone like Velcro.

So I eliminated TSL's and Ko2's along with Growlers that I considered for about 5 minutes.

I have looked through many threads and can't find Rock Beast XL's on a II with the XJ body. At least not where the pic is clear enough to tell whether they're regular or XL.

The Hyrax (being as good according to reviews) has a price advantage. But, not being a true scale tire bothers me a tiny bit. If the XL's won't fit my XJ body I'll get over it and purchase the Hyrax.

Any pics or info on Rock Beast XL on an XJ?

The XLs and the Hyraxs are the exact same size. I've had both at the same time, compared with the proline dual stage foams.

Proline tires are a PIA to mount on certain wheels and/or pull out easier than other tire brands.

Maybe not a licenced scale tyre but I think the Jconcepts scorpios would work well on sandstone, they are an XL sized 1.9.
I run mine on sandstone at times and they seem pretty good to me, work well even with loose sand on the rocks too, but I don't have years of experience and hours using many different tyres to compare them with.
The scorpios are another option to look into any way.
