^Right on man, you'll now find yourself with endless projects that need to be welded up! At least that's what my problem is now that I got a little welder.

I've been working on my Honcho lately, making a scale interior for it. I'm jealous now though....my 1:10 has triple sticks whereas my 1:1 doesn't even have dual cases or solid axle  Oh well, that's why I got into RC, so I can get badass rigs on a slightly more affordable level "thumbsup"

Dude you're getting great with styrene! How's the baby doing??

"JUST SCALE IT"

thanks, styrene is fun stuff and can be surprisingly easy to work with. dunno why I never played with this stuff in the past - now I'm hooked! i'm using the 1/16" thick sheet from TAP Plastic - a 4x4 sheet was MUCH more cost effective than buying those ridiculously priced bags of it at the hobby stores.

Baby doing good. 8 months old now and I'm guessing he'll walk on his own within a month. Everyone always said they grow up fast, but I wasn't expecting "Plaid-speed", lol.

How's your kid? You have a new one around the same age, right?

I haven't tried messing with styrene yet. But seems really cool

Yeah he's almost 9 months. Just started talking a few step a couple weeks ago. Now he's taking around 10 or so at a time!! Yes they grow FAST!!!

Very nice. Practice with the wire spool that it came with and scrap metal. Do yourself a favor and buy a good roll of ESAB it is the best running flux cored wire I've ever used! It's a little pricey, but a roll lasts awhile especially welding little stuff like this and is very worthwhile. IIRC the roll I'm using is Coreshield 11, Praxair down on Florin Perkins Road used to stock it.

Cool, good info on technique etc here: Welding How-To's

A lot of the control comes from learning the wire speed, distance from work, and arc amps setting for what you're working on. The labels on the box are good guide, but you'll find that often varying one or both slightly results in much better weld!

I try to wear helmet of course, long sleeves, and gloves even a little welding exposes you to a LOT of very bright light! I've gotten welding light burn several times...not good. I have a leather jacket with removal lower front portion that has come in very handy, the long sleeve shirts I use sometimes for a "quick" bead look like they've been left out in the sun 24/7 for couple years, they are significantly faded. Regular fabric does not provide nearly as much arc protectioin as even a cheap leather jacket.
