Redcat Ascent18, not a bad truck at all!

Nice vid! Yeah the lil' Ascent is a great little rig. Lovin' mine so far!

Nice play area you have there!(y)

The ascent18 is a really good truck. I picked one up when they were released and by far the best small crawler to have for the 99.99 price tag however the hop ups from red cat are $🤑$ lets just say that just a few upgrades from them and you could exceed the price of the whole truck, the aftermarket is catching up though so that is good. I like it a lot and been slowly tinkering with it but it has some drawbacks about it.

The esc and motor combo is great low end control and decent speed, the servo does the job nicely.

The skid is chunky and hangs a bit too low and not in a good way but to be honest the C-Hubs are awfully big and bulky and is my biggest gripe about it (One of the reasons I don't like the trx4 front axle, :cautious: mostly for the aesthetics!!! )

As mentioned by "Skurge" it is tippy without some weight down low and the stock tires are ok too stiff for my preference and plastic wheels 🥴. Once you put some weight on the wheels the truck handles really good for sure does far better than other out the box 18's and 24's.

I been tinkering with it and so far I moved the esc from the front to the side, designed and printed a rear swivel mount/front magnet mount for the Injora body that replaced the original. Other than the brass wheels and tires this little guy is stock. I would like to entertain a LCG flat rail chassis that would help the skid and lower the transmission, but it is something no necessary and I like the way it drives and performs. Here is a couple of shots of how it looks now. BTW the bumper fit this body perfectly.

100% yes, i said day one when the pictures were released that the c-hubs were too big and it was a bad design. the skid is really large and does hang the truck up a good amount

that truck is just running those treal wheels(brass rings in them) and some brass hexes, it sticks pretty nice now and will outperform my 4m's that are loaded with all the parts

also want to add that body is great on there

How are the shocks on the Ascent-18? Do they leak?
i haven't had any issues with them yet
Seems there's a lot of positive buzz around Redcat right now.
for the price i'd say to get one over anything else 18th scale. out of the box its much more useable than any of the other offerings, fast enough for some light trailing. slow enough for some crawling.

i find myself driving the ascent more than my 4m's these days. its just better. and it binds to a V2 controller, so i dont have to hold that abomination that is the TQ lol

@Speedy-Triple can you shoot me the stl for the rear mount, once i destroy this stock body one of those is next on my list

how did you mount the front?

A bit of fusion work to make almost anything is possible.

I don't have a post account on thingiverse or anything of sort... Shoot me a pm. Here are the mounts I created for the body. swivel out back to hold the rear cage and magnets on front and holds your shocks.
